So I am looking for other 4X games that are online and I am trying to find them so far these are the only ones that I have played
1. Civilizations, III,IV
2. Civilizations call to power
3. Galactic civilizations II
4.Sins of a solar empire
5. Total war series: Rome Total war/Empire Total war

That is all I have played so far and I was wondering is MOO and Sword of the stars any good? I am interested in playing them.

Sword of the Stars has beautiful graphics and excellent ship-vs-ship combat, but is rather lacking in the base-building aspect.

Have you tried Aurora? It has no graphics at all... it's a database/spreadsheet game, quite different from typical 4X games... but it has the most in-depth treatment that I`ve ever seen for tech research, component design, ship construction and ship-vs-ship combat.

Sword of the Stars is really good. You have a vast (and sightly random/different each game) tech tree, several very different races (with some of their own unique techs), a large array of customizable ship designs (and you can make your own), and its a pretty fun game all around. It also runs great and still looks good.

Demo.

An excellent AAR about the game can also be found here.

EDIT: Aurora sounds incredibly dull, half the appeal of space is watching the battles (but only half), if you're going to play a spreadsheet game you might as well play EVE Online which is BEAUTIFUL. Though each to their own.

Different strokes.

I'm playing a "community" Aurora game over on the Paradox forum (a forum devoted to hard-core gamers, run by the same company that makes Hearts of Iron 3, Europa Universalis 3, Mount and Blade, Victoria, Crusader Kings, Rome, etc).

It's a single-player game, of course, but anyone who posts into the thread can offer advice on strategy, tactics, diplomacy, ship designs, design philosophy and so on. I post progress reports and screen-shots, and often put difficult matter up to a vote. The thread was started less than three months ago, and we now have over 100 people registered in the current game, over 7,400 posts and over 196,000 hits on the thread.

These gamers don't seem to find it incredibly boring. The first battle of Wolf 294 was particularly tense and immersive... graphics or not.

You might want to read a bit more of this subforum then, as we've had a lot of AARs for Paradox games . I'm sure its a great read for your community game but to most people Aurora itself still sounds incredibly dull. Emphasis on sounds, so no need to get all defensive :)

I notice that you're registered on the Paradox forum (I'm a moderator on that board, by the way).

If you're interested in seeing any screen-shots or action reports from that Aurora database/spreadsheet game, here's a link to that thread that I mentioned... linking in just before the Battle of Wolf 294 begins (page 159, post 3164):

I tried loggin on to the paradox forums but when I registered I could not make any new posts to paradox they wanted some game key for some reason I don't know what. Maybe i will log on again and try to email yo about it.

Yeah, my log-in on that forum is also blue emu (with no capital letters).

You usually need to have one game registered in your user profile in order to post in some of the forums... it's an anti-spambot measure, since spambots don't buy games.

So is Sword of the Stars fun? I was wondering if I should download it because I am about to.

Master of Orion II is certainly a good game. Of course you must be the judge of what you want.
