This poll is for fun mainly. You can nearly get an oscar for "best supporting houseplant" so why can't we have a few more awards. Unfortunately I can only list 4 choices in the poll, but if a moderator were to read this and felt able to help me out......
White Rabbit award. At the moment people who can't finish their game in time get zero credit for the effort they have put into the game. What if we had the normal submission date, with the usual awards, but then had a later submission date for latecomers, say 2 weeks later? Then people could still submit, get their global ranking points and be able to play for this award, for the highest scoring late game. People who cannot play a full game every month could then play bi-monthly if they wished.
Medallion Man award. Monarch difficulty too easy? S'pose cracker set a slightly more difficult task. Say an OCC 100K win without building wonders, leaving despotism or researching past Chivalry, (I'm joking about not researching past chivalry). Cracker could play the game to this objective, and other players could also play to it. Those people that beat him get the medallion. The player who fails most miserably would qualify for the "Eddy the Eagle" specatacular disaster award. Of course some elite players might choose not to take the challenge, in which case they might qualify for the "Golden Chicken" award for the highest ranking player too chicken to take the challenge. Cracker might even win the Eddy the eagle award, in which case as a forfeit he would have to change his avatar to a Ski jumper for a month. How sweet would that be?
Daft Bleeder award. Start 5 tiles from the top of the map, explore north pop a hut for a settler, found a town with 3 cattle, gems, spices, river and coast in the radius. How do people do that? Such clairvoyance has only been previously demonstated by the Dark Lord (Vader) himself and deserves special recognition.
Billy No Mates award. The PTW game with the highest play time. (There is a theoretical maximum for this).
Sorry Darling award. The PTW game with the lowest (Quickest) play time. (Think about it).
Sweaty Sock award. For the cheesiest QSC timeline.
Prima Donna award. Actually I think this is a good idea (seriously). Rename it the Players player of the month award for instance and it might work. Cracker nominates half a dozen games, that show great achievement. Not just games like Zwinglis last month (great as it was) but also games from lesser mortals that have shown achievement. Everybody votes for their favourite. Nice. Maybe the posts relevent to that game could be condensed into a single web page, and be used as an educational tool. Just thinking out loud.
Mortar board award. For any player that develops a new idea that advances the CIV knowledge base.
Vote for your favourite, or alternatively don't. Even better, add your own
The serious side to this is that I have been thinking about how to make GOTM more accessible. One of the difficulties I see is that novice players don't want to play a game they can't win when the difficulty is too high, wheras the elite players are not challenged by easier level games. I hope that maybe someone on the forum might have an idea that sparks something in cracker and his team that enable them to widen the appeal of GOTM even further.
EDIT: I made a mistake with the POLL. PLEASE do not take into consideration the amount of work involved in administrating these awards. It will colour the result. When the Poll closes it will become clear why
