Painfully Slow Civ IV Play

Hi,

I used to be able to play Civ IV on my HP Pavilion dv4000 laptop just fine but now when I try to play it, it's PAINFULLY slow. I've got 1G of RAM, 100G of space... I've scanned for viruses and adware... I really don't have many files on this computer at all and I've recently re-installed windows. Any ideas of why the game play is so slow? I know my video card [Mobile Intel (R) 915GM / GMS, 910 GML Express Chip Family] isn't fantastic but I didn't think it could be THAT bad. Oh I've tried both before and after the patch and it doesn't seem to make a difference. I haven't noticed any other problems with my laptop or getting programs to load/work.
