Haven't seen anything posted on this before and was wondering how folks weigh in on this issue (though it is likely out there in forum land already) ...

Is it considered an exploit to have a non-capitol city building a palace prior to the discovery of a new technology which makes a wonder available. Then switching production to that wonder?

The AI switches between wonders when the wonder they are building is built by someone else. How realistic is it to have the the foundations of my Pyramids miraculously molded into the stretch of the Great Wall?

So do you consider palace to wonder building an exploit?

Almost everybody does not view that as an exploit. Even the RBE people (probably the most ethical players around, who consider lots of things as exploits) consider this a good strategy and use it themselves.

I don't consider it as an exploit either. Let's look at it this way...when you order your city to build a palace/wonder/whatever, it doesn't really build anything right away. That city actually stocking up building materials/shields among of other things and it will do the actual ground breaking during the last turn.:) Therefore, you can pretty much use that stockpile of materials to switch to any other type of building or wonder.:)

Seriously, that's true in the world of civ. For example, how on earth could a great leader be able to finish a Great Wonder or any type of building within 1 turn?

Realms Beyond Epics. I think you can find some of them in the succession games forums. It's a group of people who play some tournaments/games with their own set of 'rules' or principles to follow and don't really play for score, but more 'for the fun and joy' of the game. They don't really have winners and losers in the tournaments, but focus more on how you played the game.

Sorry about the threadjack but does anyone here know how to use the search function on these forums?

Gastric, at the top right of each site is a small button saying search. click, it. the options are relatively self-explaining :D

Killers reminding everyone about the search function today.. ;)

yep! :D

if everyone would just read the manual, the FAQ (a cursory look into the first and a quick complete read of the second), 1/3 of the new threads would vanish.

if everyone would try for a quick search, another third would go.

Now, we have days where hotly debated issues are quickly gone to page two.....

And remember, to find most of the threads about Deity level, it is best to misspell it diety.

I before E except after C and the D in Deity.

 it cna be kinda hrad to find stuff, but at least there is the potion to search the full posts.....

only use words with more than three letter though....

Ack, not even a week old eh? My bad.

I searched for Palace AND Wonder and got something like 1400 hits and the entire first page was bunk so rather than paging through 25 pages of hits I just posted.

Forgot to hit the 'Search Only Titles' radio - that was my problem.

Thanks for the links Maple. Learned two things from this post I guess.

Oddible: I know that feeling..... but with time you will get a feel what words to use and how to restrict the search.

And soory, i came across a lot harsher then i meant to sound. peace!

In Civ 2 people would stock up on caravans to rush wonders. Civ 3 doesn't have nearly as many cheats as the olders Civs. This kind of stuff has been around forever, but making the palace is still legit production.

I think that's about right. By the time the Great Wall is finished, for example, turns will last 40 to 50 years. Quite accurate methinks.

Seriously, that's true in the world of civ. For example, how on earth could a great leader be able to finish a Great Wonder or any type of building within 1 turn?

Maybe a Great Leader has the ability to start training hundreds of professional and expert builders. He may also speed up resource allocation. All together this allows him to finish a Great Wonder in 20 - 50 years.

Maybe the Great Leader is like Hercules, supernaturally strong, and he can finish everything in a blink.
Or maybe he's one heck of a pro with a whip in his hand.

Based on how long it takes to make the wonders, I could imagine it is possible to complete them in 1 turn. In real life, it takes more time to plan a major project than actually complete it, so I would think the leader is really smart and can figure it out in a single turn.
