My understanding is that you can only have your one palace that you always have, plus the forbidden palace. That's what the game's Civilopedia says, anyway. Yet an option for production in some of my cities (one at least that I saw) was to build a palace. This is not explained in the game manual. Can anyone explain?

Thanks.

Now that I think about it, why would I want to do that? Would it move my capital closer to the center of the empire, so as to reduce corruption/waste in more cities (I'm trying to figure out a way to do that, as courthouses aren't always helping).

Perhaps you started on the tip of a plains peninsula, but 20-30 tiles away is a vast grasslands with rivers. Moving your palace there could be a very good move in the long term.

However, the cost of building a palace increases with the number of cities you have, and you can also move a palace by abandoning your capital city. So I think what most people do--if they move their palace at all--is to ensure the city they want the capital to be in is their largest (by population) city by growing it and starving/building workers out of the others and then abandon the capital. The palace auto-jumps to the biggest remaining city.

If you have objections to palace jumping by abandoning a city, you could also use a leader to build the palace I think.

Somewhat remote, and plenty of grasslands sitting right on a river. But yes, most of the cities are somewhat distant from the capital.

Yeah, abandoning a city just isn't in my nature. Besides, I'd have to build somewhere ... my largest city (not the capital) isn't much closer in to the center anyway. Oh well, it was worth a thought & I'll keep it in mind, at least.
