How do you edit a palette? I was able to do it in PSP8 but flicster refuses to aknowledge any changes I have done to the palette. I attempted to figure out why it wasn't happening for ten minutes and ended up wanting to shoot my computer out of fustration. So could any one please tell me how I edit a units palette so that flicster aknowledges it?

The way I do it:

1. Export storyboards
2. Edit the palette of the storyboards
3. Export a .flc out of the .fxm

I never touch the Flicster palette, just edit the storyboards.

With PSP/Photoshop/GIMP

Still not working. I export the storyboard open it up with psp8 edit the palette in psp8 save then hit export, but nothing has changed.

So its quite easy :) :

- flicster -> Export storyboards
- Delete the 2 "*.pal" files (you don't neet this)
- load "*.pcx" -> PSP7 or 8
- Save Palette (for PSP8: Image -> Palette -> Save Palette...)

If finished storyboard -> Load Palette... -> there are 3 choices: Use the first one for new storyboards.

Now you able to edit the palette. Because its a text file, there is a simple way to do this: use a text editor! Ultra Edit is a good one, but isn't free.

Here is a description of the PSP Civ palette:

File extension: -PSP7 -> "*.pal" , PSP8 -> "*.PspPalette"

Location: Normally -> C:\Program Files\Jasc\Paint Shop Pro 8\Palettes\*.*

-260 lines:
-1-3 -> file header
-4-67 -> civ color
-68-227 -> unit color
-228-243 -> smoke (100-0 percent transparency)
-244-259 -> shadows (0-100 percent transparency)
-260 -> just an empty line

Example:

Header:

Still not working. I export the storyboard open it up with psp8 edit the palette in psp8 save then hit export, but nothing has changed.

When Flicster asks whether you want to open new .fxm, don't. Or if you do, make sure you close it and reopen the .fxm after you've edited the storyboard or the changes you've made won't take effect.

No drift your's doesn't work. Maybe it's what I'm trying to do. I'm picking a color then changing it (ex. I chose black, then I change it to yellow and everything in the storyboard that was that shade of black is now yellow, then I hit save, then hit export then I say yes to opening a new fxm).

OK heres what I see:

Flicster only asks about opening a new .fxm when you are exporting storyboards from a .flc, not vice versa.

Let's go through this step by step.

1. Open unit .flc with Flicster
2. Export storyboard from it. Don't open new .fxm when Flicster asks about it.
3. Open the storyboard with graphics editing software, edit palette and save.
4. Open the .fxm file with Flicster and export a .flc Note that Flicster doesn't ask anything at this point.

This works 100%, if you can't get it to work, you are doing something wrong in the process. My guess is that you are exporting the storyboard over and over again effectively overwriting your previously edited storyboard. I did that too when I was learning Flicster. Are you sure you open .fxm and not .flc when you are trying to update the .flc with the changes you've made to the storyboard palette?

I dd exactly what you told me to do. I opened a unit flc with flicster, then I hit export, I say no to opening a .fxm file, then I open open the story board, edit the palette, save the changes done to the story board, go back to flicster, hit export, say yes to open .fxm file, hit export on the fxm screen. But nothing happens.

Just out of curiosity, what was the key?

Key? You mean what was I doing wrong? I assumed that you meant hit export again on the flc screen, only to relize you meant go to file open and then open the .fmx file. I was doing exactly what you thought I was doing wrong. :lol:
