I recently recieved an old used Palm IIIe, for free, as someone was gonna throw it out. I very luckily found a working cradle for it and made a very nice little makeshift stylus out of a nail and cellotape (no kidding! This thing leaves no marks!)
My problem is that I can't find a program for my computer (WinXP) that would agree to interface with a handheld that uses PalmOS 3.1 and the Palm website says Palm IIIe cannot have an OS upgrade because it has no Flash ROM. I googled a bit and combed the Palm site a lot, but couldn't find anything.
If anyone knows of a good program, third-party or real Palm technology, that would work on Windows XP and interface with PalmOS 3.1, I'd be much obliged. Especially if it's freeware. If there's some other solution that would be cool as well...

go to palmone.com and download the program for it. Ive used a Palm IIIxe on XP Pro. So it shouldnt ba a problem.

Well, Palm IIIxe isn't exactly the same as the IIIe, but after some more rigorous searching I've managed to find some old versions which agree to work with such old PalmOS (the current Palm Dekstop, 4.1.4, required PalmOS 4.0 and up, but Palm Dekstop 4.0 is backwards compatible.)
Thanks anyhow. :)

indeed it is....thats what we used to use with the Kyocera 7135s

I do intend to make the switch to Linux for my main OS some day, but at the moment I don't even have the space to run Linux as my secondary OS so it's kinda out of the question.
I already know Linux is better. :)

Do you still need software for the palm IIIe?? I have some stored on my local server that I could make available if you need.

No, I'm using Palm Desktop 4.0 and that's just fine. Thanks anyways.
I was kinda disappointed to find out that it's pretty much impossible to find a compatible stylus for the IIIe... The guy at the computer store said he doubts even the official Palm importer would have one...
I've been using a nail with a few layers of Sellotape around the sharp end as a stylus... It really works quite well... But nothing can beat a real one. =\

Thanks, but shipping there outside of North America is a bit steeper ($6). After a few quick searches I found out Israel is full of webstores that have compatible styluses (styli?) so the store guy was wrong. They're pretty cheap as well.
It seems the III series has the same stylus specs as the VII series, that's probably one reason these styluses are still around.
