played with hugh earth map, it seems the game designer would ignore the important of transportation stronghold... for example, panama canal & suez canal, also, few tiny island on the atlantic, pacific, indian ocean...

Holding this point, u will dominate entire ocean with jet fighter(to scout) & sterl bomber( to air strike) & limited naval force.

and I thought it should get large income from this...(in fact, it doesn't). Also AIs is not aware of this strondhold...

is this blind spot of designer?

I've wondered if the AI gives much weight to strategic locations. I'd guess no, since everyone sees them drop cities one tile away from the coast or a river, but how about for locations like this?

Not just for placement, but in diplomacy and war? Are they more likely to desire Open Borders with you if you're controlling a canal city? Do they guard canal cities or mountain pass cities more vigilantly? Do they give more weight in suing for peace to cities that have strong strategic import?

I have seen the AI settle dead-middle of an ithamus, so civs would require open borders to get from one side of the continent to another, but other then that, it seems like they cant determine strategetic locations based on current borders, they jsut determine it on geography and the possible importance it could be in the later game.
