panama channel

in an old civ-clone (i believe it was freeciv 1.x) it was possible to build channels through the country, which made it possible to get ships trough landmasses....
i searched the forum but didnt find anything like this....

is there no interest or is this an bad idea? tell me your meaning

I really love this idea, I don't have the python knowledge to do it...but one of my great loves of civ2 was the ability to change water/land squares, so you could in theory build land bridges to your enemies, or cut yourself off from a larger landmass.

maybe if we hold our breaths til we turn blue somoene will take the hint....or hold a contest the best code gets a trip to vegas

I think it is the panama Canal, but i think other people from other nations name it different.
