Hey guys.
AS we can see unit called “panzer” has satats 16/8/3. That could bring back the A/D/M discussion. I feel much better after seeing higher stats!!! The only question might be movement of 3. Compare that to cavalry or even fast bowmen hm…..
Oh well I cannot see how even fortified phalanx resists panzers in civ3.
Bring it on !!!

Nice stats and

"...can attack multiple times in a single fight and withdraw from combat if losing the fight..."

Whoa!

I wonder what the regular tank stats are though.

NO!
Those stats are for the modern armour! If you look closely at the screenshot with the Panzer on, it says that the unit becomes obsolete when modern armour comes along. The other civs' tanks will be weaker than the Panzer as that is the whole point of a special unit. Unless those abilities withdrawing from combat are special. That would be strange. I'd have thought that an ordinary tank would have an attack of 14 though.

every mobile unit can withdraw from a fight if losing. its like in smac. having 2 less defense but 1 additional move is quite good i think. imho firaxis wanted the panzer to be a "blitzkrieg"-unit ---> faster movement. being able to attack first seems to be very important as most units won't survive a tank attack.

Speaking of higher ADM numbers, it seems the arms race has gone exponential in Civ3.

In Civ2, Knights, Cavalry and Armor had A ratings of 4, 8 and 10, respectively, and 10, 20 and 30 HPs. In Civ3, the corresponding units seem to have A ratings of 4, 6 and 16, all with the same HP. Looks like a massive downgrading of the Cav, while the Armor has lost little as compared to the Knight. Then come the Modern Armor with a whopping 24 ...

This'd seem to indicate that superior tech will be less of an advantage for military purposes in the early eras, but that missing the industrialization train 'll be lethal. It'll be interesting to see how this affects game play - I can see alot of minor AI civs getting colonized in the Industrial Era ...

I almost totally agree with The Last Conformist and it is good to see all those changes to units stats in Civ3.
However, many minor civs will be in danger over industrial age, it will be interesting to see how the concept of culture will harden conquests.
:crazyeyes

man, i can't wait till i crush my enemies under the weight of my modern tank divisions(armies)...!!:D I'll have my copy within a week from the release date...can't wait that long!!!:jump:

Muahahahaha. Now if all armor is capable of multiple attacks, I'll have even more fun. But if the Panzer is the only Armor that can withdraw...I may have to play the Germans first. :)

If it's like SMAC, any unit with a movement > 1 has a chance of withdrawing from combat if threatened with destruction.

If I remember correctly, only defending units with movement >1 could withdraw. If you attacked, you either won or died.

In Civ3, it almost sounds like you can withdraw an attacking unit if you want (provided it has high movement).

Yes, the Panzer is the final cog in the German wheel... I really really hope that the normal tank is 14/10/2. Because if it is 16/10/2, then all the Panzer has on the normal tank is an extra move point. That and the ability to attack multiple times per turn (which SHOULD be excusive to panzer, or at least not had by other tanks.) If all tanks can attack multiple times, then the panzer will just be a faster, weaker version (which I hope isnt true!)
Well, I'm sure that the stats were fluctuating constantly due to playtesting...so when I get my copy i get to see whether the Germans will the steamrollers I think/hope they will be, or just a second-tier civ to follow the Chinese.
