patch 109 now out

don't get too excited though... I just finished installing it and I just experienced my first ever civ4-caused BSOD.

I got this error while trying to install the patch:
"Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product Sid Meier's Civilization 4. The windows installer could not continue".

My system locks up after I click on updates within the game. My CD drive stops spinning...can't atl-tab...or ctl-alt-del out either.

I just downloaded it & upgraded from 1.08 to 1.09 w/ no problems, for what it's worth.

Downloading stopped at 94 % :-( !!!
Is there any other places you can download patch from ????

I just get an error when I try to download the patch.

EDIT: Took several attempts but it finally downloaded. Hope it changes things for the better!

I too got Error 1706 when installing, but it seemed to install fine after clicking OK. My first WW animation after the patch froze up, but it didn't freeze the game, as a could still "OK" out of it. Less than a minute later, it crashed my video card. I don't ever get BSOD or CTD; my monitor just shuts off (6600GT 128MB card). Before the patch, the game would occasionally crash, but never this quickly. Plus, the WW animations did play, just a little choppy. I didn't want a patch that made things worse!!!

I wish I got something....my system just sits there. Same screen as the update one. Nothing changes when I click update....the CD starts to spin...then quits...I let it sit there for 30mins then had to hard boot out again...enough of that.

Having the same problem as with 1.08 (which I uninstalled): The intro doesn't stutter anymore: It has become a dia-show. And yes, I do have the latest nvidia drivers installed. This isn't funny anymore...

I still have the black terrain but i guess its because i have a crappy graphics card and I will never be able to get the terrain to look right

I re-installed unpacked the art files and then updated to 1.09 it starts, but the movies in the begining I notice skip more than before. So I exited out of the program ran a defrag and rebooted the pc. I have closed all unused programs and used the .bat file to set the game to run in high priority mode. I will update this post with my results as I am going to close this and test it.

Ok, after all that now it seems to work. But for me it seems only a few things were improved. No memory leak (runs no more than 256mb) and the lag isn't bad even in high quality mode. Still laggy. But not as bad. The leaders avatars actually render, no more cheshire cat. Also the resources show up properly on screen, no more burnt toast by itself.

The only problems are, the movies are more skippy than before, and I still have a black map problem in the main game when fog of war is turned on. But in worldbuilder, no problem. I also still have a problem with animals not rendering properly, just their shadows both in-game and in the world builder.
