patch 109 now out

Downloaded the patch. Didn't fix a thing for me. Huge map still drrrrragggggsssss very slowly during turns. *sigh*

Didn't crash to the desktop though. Of course, I only played one turn of a saved game.

In short, the patch didn't fix any of my problems. Back to the drawing board. Kind of pisses me off considering my computer exceeds the recommended requirements in all areas but one (and my video card meets the requirements). Runs Doom3, WoW and Halflife 2 fine but not this.

Edit:
For the record....
P4 3.0 Gig running XP Pro
1 Gig RAM
120 GB Harddrive recently defrag (in the last week)
iNvidia 5600XT 128 MB video card w/ current drivers
Realtek AC97 sound card w/ current drivers

The patch did not fix the dreaded blue screen of death crash on my system. The first wonder movie that tried to run after I applied the patch resulted in an instant BSOD. <sigh>

well after installing the patch and running a game for a little bit i can say thats it better but not 100% yet still have some graphic problems. everything works fine on standard size map. on large continents, pangea, archepeligo and terra wont work and none work on huge. when i get a wonder movie or founding religion it works ok but when the movie is done and it goes back to the map the map is now dark again.

Hate to be a pest, but could you post your specs in order to start to get a feel for what rigs are still having issues? TIA

:On Edit: I am not going to slam you; I am one who has had issues and am very sympathetic. ;)

I downloaded the patch. Didn't seem to help the speed very much and the wonder movies are worse than before. Now wat'll I do??

I wonder if we have to "undo"the unpak fix we ATI users applied in order to see any performance gains....

Hope there is an easy way if so, if not, another uninstall/reinstall. (I'm getting good at it...hehheh)

Can somebody upload the downloaded patch soemwhere else ?????

Ditto the above please. Mine simply won`t download. Screens all work fine just no traffic. I`ve been trying for 4 hours now and not so much as a kilobyte. I`ve disabled anti virus and anti-spyware in case that would be preventing DL but nothing.

Success! I loaded the patch and at first it didn't help. If anything, the stuttering in the intro movie was far, far worse.

However, and I don't know why I thought of doing this, but I deleted the entire "my games" directories under "My Documents" as well as in "Application Data". Restarted the game and I have now seen the intro movie for the first time ever. Maybe a hint of hesitation from time to time, but no stuttering like before, and I suspect that may just be because my system barely passes recommended specs. I'm almost in tears, I'm so happy. :D So far, the game is playing flawlessly and I've not had the terrain go black or the screen start blinking in and out on me anymore.

Compaq Presario 8000
AMD AthlonXP 1800+ (1.53GHz)
512MB Ram
Nvidia FX 5500 w/128MB Ram
Graphics in game currently set to high. Only change I have made is switched the resolution to 1280x960.

Firaxis, the lack of communication is forgiven, at least as far as I'm concerned. I can play Civ IV with no issues so far! You all at Firaxis enjoy a nice and relaxing Thanksgiving!

On a side note, I can quit hanging out in the OT section now because I couldn't play CIV. :)

Welp, it runs twice as slowly as it did before, but LO! Cheshire leaders and blacklands are GONE.

Maybe it'll be playable as intended by patch 2.3. *sigh*

VRWCAgent, I think you are onto something. I noted earlier:

"I too got Error 1706 when installing, but it seemed to install fine after clicking OK. My first WW animation after the patch froze up, but it didn't freeze the game, as a could still "OK" out of it. Less than a minute later, it crashed...Before the patch, the game would occasionally crash, but never this quickly. Plus, the WW animations did play [before], just a little choppy."

I played a little more and the animations would work almost flawlessly about 75% of the time, it's almost like my computer and the game are learning to cooperate or something. Anyway, it still crashed about an hour later though. So, I took your advice VRWC, and just deleted everything in both directories (I had already cleared the Cache directory earlier). I ran a game and the first two animations ran flawlessly. Unfornately, you lose your HoF scores and so on, but I only have a few so far anyway...

My guess is that you really only need to delete everything in the "Application Data" subdirectories as I don't see how the "My Games" directory's contents would really affect anything. Either way, I am tired of the bugginess, so I just trashed it all and it seems to be working much better.

This really makes me appreciate companies like Blizzard whose patches seem to always improve things drastically...

I just installed the patch and finally it looks like it should, its beautiful, made my day, now just to finish "work" and i can play all night.

First attempt at patch failed so i had to do a full re-install, i backed up the patch executable that is saved to my drive and used that next time round and it was fine.

Loaded it up and it looked brilliant, now to play it and hope for the best.

I have a radeon mobility 7500 64MB and had the washed out terrain problem before, now it works!! There is hope!

Reading this i wonder if i should leave 1.09 be. Didnt take 1.08 since it was sort of cancelled by QA. I'm having the same shortcomings as al others but still playable at medium graphics and medium mapsize (i have 6600GT, 1 MB RAM, P4 3,2 MHz).
Should 1.09 be ignored ? Any advice much appreciated.

I too have been having CTD's after updating to 1.09. It usually occurs after saving a game and then pressing the "Back to Main Menu" button. Never had any problems with 1.0. All error reports have been forwarded to MS.

Specs :

Athlon 64 3200+
MSI K8T Neo
Geforce 6600
768mb Ram

All drivers up to date.

Downloaded with no problem. Loading times seem longer but at least no cheshire cat leaderheads (my 3 year old was really getting freaked out) and the black screen seems to be fixed. I'm running a Dell dimension 4500s and the crappy sound and video card that came with it. Can't really see much improvement in game lag even though I checked to newest low end graghics box.

I was hoping it would freeze the resource animations (annoying eye candy) but it didn't. Some resources are still moving black globs when I zoom out. All in all I'd say I'm pleased. I hadn't noticed any of the game play issues the patch fixed.

I am pleased to report that patch 1.09 makes Civ 4 play as advertised (at least for me). Although I could play out of the box, there was degradation in several areas. Now I can enjoy the complete Civ 4 experience. I must mention that it was not enough to install 1.09 on top of my existing game. I achieved the best results by removing my previous installation entirely, reinstalling from CD, and then applying the patch. The wonder movies play great now and many other parts of the game have improved. Sorry if others are still having problems, but my patience (waiting for the patch) has been rewarded.

Just reporting: My black terrain and invisible leaders are gone with the patch. I haven't had any problems with crashes and videos before either, so now my CivIV is playable, although the deer and pigs are still just wandering shadows.

I have a p4 2,4, radeon 7500, 512 meg of ram and XP (sp2).

Just installed the patch on top of my original installation, worked fine for me.

I think I will go that route then, when I install the patch later. One thing that perplexes me a bit, is that I don't really know where the cache directory goes anymore. Instead of deleting the contents I accidentally deleted the entire cache directory. Since then I've cleared the trash, so it's gone. I wouldn't worry about that any, since I've played the game quite a bit that way, and since I restart so many times it's certainly a plus not to have to clear those contents all the time. I made a cache folder out of scratch, and put it where I thought it was supposed to go, only problem is that the game has stopped throwing things to that directory (maybe because it's in the wrong place). Anyway, doing what you did will reestablich things, but I certainly don't want to start thinking I have to uninstall everytime ther's a new patch out, as that would get silly.

I feel disappointed and
I really want to know what's go on for the game programmer?
1. After I bought the game, the game prompt ...xml error, entered the game
and crashed after start a new game
2. I used many hours to see the forum and change my computer's LANGUAGE

3. Today I found 1.09 patch released, so i download by click in the main menu - >advanced - > update (I cant find the other way to download).
However, the game crashed before finished the game!!!
4. Finally, I downloaded the patch. However, it say i am not using a valid source....I installed the patch. Launch the game, ..the error prompt come backs (...xml error). I can play the game but crashed when i click the button to show gild line.
5. Restart the computer and complain here
