Patch fix faulty copy protection?

Anyone know if the patch corrects the copy protection problems with laptop cd drives? If not, does anyone know if there's a new, fixed executable available yet?

There IS a crack exe for v.17f.

Is there one for 1.16f?

I run VPC 5.0 on a PowerBook G4 500/Mac OS 10.1.1 (BSD UNIX) to simulate a 300 MHz Pentium III Windows 98 configuration. It handles most games beautifully, but there have been problems with the SafeDisk 2 protection on Civ3. The DVD-ROM drive is a Mat****a SR-8187 and the machine is a laptop. Have other people been having trouble with that configuration under _Windows_?

Is there a cracked .exe for the newest version after the patch is applied? It keeps asking for CD.
