seriously, though, how did you manage to play pbems with a 56k modem, i hope (and pray) I never have to attempt that. What were download times like for turns?

well, playing PBEMs wasn't that difficult... downloading one savegame took some 20-30 seconds.

how big were the game files, i am just curious because i have been trying to get my brother to play and he only has dial-up w/ 56k. what map sizes were you playing?

i've never played anything bigger than Standard(100x100); the biggest save i can remember was about 200kB. downloading took 40-50 sec. and sending - some 50-70 sec., but as i wrote, if you play with 4 players it's usually 20-30 seconds...
