Hey, I was just wondering if anyone would be interesting in a PBEM game of FfH. This way of playing can be fun since you don't have to play your turn at any specific time, just when you get it, you send it on to the next player.

For those that have never done it, a PBEM is a game where one player starts the game, performs his turn, then emails it to the next person in the rotation. They play a turn and email the save to the next person, etc. Posting in a forum thread some RP-ish details of what happened on your turn (or at least confirming it was sent) can make playing one almost like an AAR.

Anyways, just curious, since Civ 4 does support these kinds of games.

example PBEM game thread (for Age of Wonders) http://aow.heavengames.com/cgi-bin/forums/display.cgi?action=ct&f=25,3551,0,60

You'll never finish one. I don't think anyone EVER has in the history of people forgetting to do things and eventually ignoring your prodding. It's partly becasue the first few turns you end up taking longer to load the game than actually playing, which is pretty dull. Good luck, though!

It can certainly be done. However, I think that having several play by email games would be the ideal. Since, each one takes so long to finish and similarly, some will never get finish due to people dropping out.

So, one idea might be to make a thread like this and start up and list several Play by Email games and whatnot.

I have seen PBEMs played to a victory. And if a non-playing referee has the Civ passwords for each player, then if a player drops out a new one can take their place. One method to speed the game would be to schedule a time where all the players can be online simultaneously. This would be very nice for the first turns of the game. It is important to carefully schedule the turn order so that a turn can be played daily. If your lucky you might even get two turns a day. The fewer the players the better. For PBEM I like a max of 4, maybee 5.

If someone could host a PTBS game I would very much like to play. I'd also play a PBEM but with the imminent arrival of BtS and the next phase of FfH I wonder if it is best to wait. These games can take over a year to finish. It would be nice to be playing the next phase rather than the old phase.

What is PTBS?

Doesn't seem to be too much interest in the PBEM for now, so meh.. Was just a thought.
