I'm Just trying to copy and paste a civ 3 resource to a resource box Vulcadon made. I dont mess with this kind of thing, numbers, indexing, specially NUMBERS, etc... its too complex for me. I just copy and paste from ready to eat files.

So I got a PCX file ready, but everywhere I turn to I find a problem to finish my unit:

1- Flicster wont take in PCX to convert to FLC as it only exports.
2- Flicster exports FXM and FLCs.

Ok I get it, so I must open an FXM to copy and paste my PCX on it, to then import to Flicster, and export as a Flc unit.

3- Gimp cannot open FXM files :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

If PCX cant go in FLicster, and FXM cant be opened by Gimp, then.... :crazyeye::wallbash::aargh:

I got this far on my own as I could not understand the tutorials. If you look up the definition of noob sauce in a dictionary it says 'Zergmazter'

Ohhhhhhhhhhh...

I finally get it. I was treating FXM files as a PCX and that was my problem. Its actually an extension or something that reads whatever image you have on your PCX, then you use the FXM to import to FLIcster, then export as FLC.

It must be in the same folder, and named as your FLC ahhhhhhh. Next step is finding out how all those little slides work to make an animation.

ZergMazter... I am not exactly sure the steps you are taking with Flicster to make your Flcs.

Reading and Writing steps are Always more difficult than Viewing or Doing the steps. That said, see if this will Help You:

Flicster makes both the FXM and Blank Storyboard that it places together in the same folder.

Open Flicster and click on "File" (top Left) then Click "New". You will see a new Box with the settings to make a New Animation.

Click on "Frame Size" and "Click on "Increase Size" then type in the Width and Height of the Frame Size used on your Storyboard such as 160 x 160 then click OK.

Click on "Frame Count" and Click on "Change Frame Count" then type in the Number of Frames for your Animation that are on your Storyboard. This is just one row from left to right, NOT all Frames for all directions. In other words, the Number of Frames used for one direction such as 15. Click OK.

Palette and Frame Delay can be set later...or if you already know, you can add them.

You can Click on "Base File Name" and change the Name to your Unit Name or Leave it as "Unit1", "Unit2", etc... and rename it after you generate the New FXM and Blank Storyboard.

You can change where the File will be placed in the "Output Directory" or simply leave it with the Default. The Default will place the File Folder in your Civ III Units Folder and will be named as you have selected.

Click "Export" Finished. You now have a NewFXM file with a blank pcx Storyboard.

The Folder will have Both the FXM file and the blank Storyboard. The FXM file has the information for your animation. The Storyboard is simply the pcx file with all frames for each direction.

Open the Folder and replace the blank pcx file with your finished Storyboard and then you will be able to Open Flicster and click "File" then "Open" and go to the Unit Folder where you had Flicster save it and Open the animation by double left clicking the FXM file.

NOTE: Your pcx Storyboard Must have a Correct palette placed on it. This assumes you understand about the Civ III Unit Palettes.
If you do not already have a Palette placed on your Storyboard you can open the Storyboard with a Graphics Editor and apply the Palette to it then save the Storyboard back to the Folder that has the FXM file.
...Not to confuse you but when I Open a Storyboard in my Graphics Editor to apply a palette, I save the Storyboard with the Name I want for the Unit. This is when I simply use "Unit1" as the name in flicster. I change the Name on the FXM file to the New Name on the Storyboard. This is simply faster for me :)

Once you Open the animation in Flicster, click on "View Animation" (located on top). You can place a Check Mark on "Alpha Blend" to view the animation with a light grey background rather than the Magenta background generally used. This is just for viewing and has nothing to do with the background of the finished Storyboard or Flc.

You can change the Flc Speed using the "Frame Delay" Slider and you can also apply the Civ Specific Color you want to use by selecting it from the drop down box under "Civilization Color".

When you have the settings you like, Click on "Export". This Box is easy to understand and generally you will not need to change anything other than the Palette and Frame Delay used. Generally you will select "Current Viewer Palette" and "Current Viewer Delay".

Export and you will have the Finished Flc in the same Folder with your FXM and Storyboard. It will be there in the Folder called "FLICster".

When you test the animation in game, if you want to make any changes, you can always Remake the Flc by going back to the Storyboard and FXM file with Flicster to make any changes you prefer such as Flc Speed (Frame Delay) to make another Flc with any changes you want.

Thanks Vulcadon. It's already making more sense. I wanted to make my own army units, but I needed to learn everything from the basics because it wasnt making any sense.

I'm already making progress. I made my first non-animated units using your cargo box PCX, and my resource of choice. This is a baby step, but hey what once looked like a beast now looks like a cookie monster to me.

ZergMazter... Yes, it was basically the same for all of us when starting.
Keep your interests and all will be Clear :)

I have a Tutorial concerning the Army Palettes and how to make a normal game Unit into an Army Unit if you can get through it. You can fine it here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=124735&highlight=Converting+game+units+army

...as I stated, it is much more difficult to read and write than it is to do it.

I wish you "LUCK" = "Laboring Under Correct Knowledge" with all your endeavors :)

If I can help you in any way, you can send me a private message or just post here.
