i messed around with this for the first time and i saw that a few of my icons had a pink background. i'm pretty sure the backgrounds is default plain white but it shows up pink.

help me out guys

I use the standard answer: you have probably messed up your pallette. OR, do you mean units for which you haven't added any pedia icons? Then it uses the units32, which have a magenta background.

well all i did was make icons in paint and the save them as pcx in psp. i know it uses units 32 if there arent any but thats not the case. i havent messed around with the palette, but how can i fix it if its messed up?

I don't really know about pedia icons, but I think that, as you are using psp, the last colour in the pallette should probably be the background colour. And it should be 256 colours. And don't ask me how to use psp, I have photoshop, and are only parroting what I have snapped up in this forum

the last color is black. #255 but the background ends up pink and when i made the icon the background was white.

The last two entries in the palette are transparent colors. This goes for any of the .PCX and .FLC files in civ III. :)

The last two colors on the pallette will show up pink in game in the civilopedia. These are the transparent colorlocations for unists and such, but for civilopedia inages they aren't transparent, they show a pink. This makes NO sense but thats how it is. You have to make sure that those colors are not used in your picture. In photoshop they are the First two colors in the Color Table, some other programs apparently the last two colors.

Yea, it seems that in PSP (i got 8 beta) the last 2 are transparent. What confused me is that some of the others I made are perfectly fine but I guess after it's all resized the color changes a bit. I think the few ones that I put up showed up alright so I won't need to fix those.
