Pentium 4 optimization?

I heard from someone that Civ 3 was written with the P4 processor in mind and was optimized for use with the P4. Does anyone have any details on this, or know whether or not it's even true? I'm going on vacation for a few weeks tomorrow so I won't be able to reply for awhile, so thanks in advance for any replies.

I have a Pentuim 3, 384 megs RAM, and it works fine. The only slow down is on huge maps by the time the middle ages roll around.
