Do you guys think it is a good idea to switch to one of the peoples government such as The Republic or Democracy. They people say they want it all the time but I cant stand the unhappiness that goes along with going to war. What do you experts out there think?

Keep your wars short if at all possible. Democracy is by far the best government.

I think that you can stay as a despotism until you get democracy (in fact I actually recomend this, as you can rush production with population). It seems, however, that communism is no match for democracy. I have a game going as the Persians, who are scientific, and I still can't keep up with the democracies around me. On the other hand, five turns of anarchy would make things even worse, so I really wish I had switched to democracy instead of communism. My vote: Republic doesn't help much, but democracy is a must!
