For those of you who have played both Railroads and Civ4 how do you the compare in performance? I can barely play Civ4 on my p4 1.7. Will I experience the same sluggishness in this game?

Honestly you probably won't be able to run it. I have a P4 3.6ghz with 1 gig of RAM and I can barely run it after the computer and I establish a lot of trains.

The system requirement : High on memory, moderate on graphics and CPU.

I played this on my 2-year old machine, and it run quite well..
SPEC : 3.0GHz intel pentium 4 CPU, 1G Byte RAM, fast SATA HDD.
VGA: 1.5 year old Nvidia 6600 128MB RAM.

It is perfectly enjoyable and playable with my machine in quite high to mid graphics settings (1280 *1024, no AA)
In this setting, the game run very smoothly without noticeable slow down or jerkiness except few moments.
Even in the highest grahics setting (1280*1024, AA * 4), this game is playable with little sluggishness when scrolling.

But I noticed that the game consumes nealy 700 MB+ of RAM when playing.
So I strongly recommand 1G RAM or more.

My verdict is that if you have 1G RAM, and mid-level CPU/VGA, it will work fine.

Thanks for the responses.

Hmm, with the track record of Civ4 I think I will wait until I get better specs. With my P4 1.7, 1GB RAM and a lousy GF5500 I'm on the edge.

I just wanted to let you know (there might be people with similar specs out there) that I went out and bought it anyway. And to my big surprise it performs pretty okay. Much better than Civ4. The settings are the lowest possible of course.

Fun game!

I have a 1.7 GHz Pentium IV with 1 GB of RAM and a GeForce 5700 LE Optima 128 MB Graphics card. Sid Meier's Railroads! runs on it using the default settings that I assume were selected when I installed the game. It does crash from time to time, but I think that may be due to the need for a patch.

One thing I did find out was not to change the settings. I had to delete the .ini files to get the game to run again.

I ordered a new vid card today, it doesn't run so well for me.

Got a AMD X2 3800+, 1Gig mem, Radeon 9800 Pro. The Pro was long overdue for replacement and the game pretty much falls apart when you're half way through. I suspect that with the 7900GS TOP I ordered, the game will run very smooth indeed.

But... Civ 4 ran great for me and it's basically the same engine. I had expect it to perform much better.
