Pholus mutagen / hybrid forest

Hi, I'm playing Gaian and I'm a little confused.
(1) Must I have the Pholus Ridge in my territory before I can get the Pholus Mutagen resource (assuming I've researched Pholus Mutagen)? If so, must I build some kind of improvement on the Ridge?
(2) Must I have the Pholus Ridge before I can plant hybrid forests? If so, that makes Gaian starts a little difficult since you need to make sure that you're kinda close to the Ridge.

n the second question: You don't as far as I know (unless something was changed in the last few patches which seems really unlikely.) You just research an advance, and hybrid forests become available if you are using the hybrid ecology civic. (Forests and fungus also convert to hybrid forest automatically over time after the appropriate advance, so you could build those in preparation as well.)

Yes.

No. Doesn't even have to be within a city's radius, just within your borders in general.

(2) Must I have the Pholus Ridge before I can plant hybrid forests?

No.
