Pirates wont run

every time i run pirates it quits within a second of the game starting. sometimes it goes for a little whil (longest it went without quitting was 15 mins) does anyone know what the problem is? it might be the graphics card.

I had the same problem. It's the graphics card.

There is a work around if you don't have the money to get a new graphics card. Turn all of the video options to the highest settings possible. This sounds completely backwards from what you'd think you should do, but it works. The game will run incredibly slow, but it should stop crashing.

I am also having this problem. I can usually get it to work if I just reboot the computer, but that doesn't seem to be the case tonight.

So what do I do if I can't even get the game to run long enough to change the graphics settings? Is there a file I can modify to change the graphics settings from outside the game?

given this description, try defragging your drive.
