Plans for the war with Rome

There's been a lot of talk about a possible follow-up war with Rome once the German war is done.

Personally I don't see any reason to rush this war, we can very easily get military tradition quickly, and cavalry with 15 strength would defeat Rome with considerable ease, far easier than our current military could.

What does everyone think, what are the benefits of a rapid war, or should we wait to give our military new technologies with which to defeat our enemies more swiftly.

You should also consult our Warlord, that was elected to do exactly this.
Last time I checked, he just cut and paste Dutchfires recommendations.

For us to make a good war on Rome, we, the citizens, may need the following (as the present Warlord does not do much it seems):

Power Graph (Hard target?)
Money Graph (Juicy target?)
Population Graph (long occupation?)
Intelligence on Roman city locations, city walls, garrisons and so on.
Types of unit we expect to meet (Horse Archers, spearmen, longbowmen and some newer medieval units).
Where we should set the 2nd border with Rome if we want a shorter war right after Germany (which makes sense, as we need to use the good medieval forces we have when they count, how many cities can we get away with , with the army we got)
War goals (how many cities, gold, techs?)
How fast do we want the continent (20-50-100 turns?) ?

Where is the analysis and research folks?

I would like the warlord or others to do this, but otherwise, let someone else do this.

All these questions must be covered, in order to make a war that makes some sense. but of course, we can just a send a stack in their general direction and see what happens.

I think our best interests demand win the total war against Rome as soon as
possible. That's the strategy I defend.
But this also says very little: what is said "possible"?
All this, the needed intelligence, the needed units, the good timings, and more, is the duty of our warmongers headed by our Warlord.
Have your say, please, tell your needs, the prices, the probable casualties
and times.
Best regards,

Well, you guys elected the warlord, so put him to work. I lost the election, and will not do his work.

There are 6 cities, we see 5 of them (pictures below)
Rom 13 citizen on a hill with river east
Antium 13 cits on meadow
Ravenna 7 cits on meadow with walls
Hamburg 6 cits on prairie
Arpium 4 cits on meadow
Circei is unknown

tech-range to Music, philosophy, construction, civil service, Feudalism, Theology, optics, compass

Units
Longbows, crossbows, horse-archer, Praets

Roman has power of ~300.000 soldier, of that are 80.000 soldiers in techs and ~25 in cits. If you think a forge (2.000) and barracks(3.000) in some city; i think it will be 180.000 in units.
3.000 katas and horse-archer
4.000 cross- and long-bows, Praets

Very good research Husch, You should be warlord next term, or even now.

As you can see, a competent army of partial City Raider, Cover and Shock promotions (we still need vassalage for that extra promotion) for our many maceman is what matters. Add in enough catapults to bring down defenses in 2-3 turns for each city, and make sure we got two stacks so we can take two cities at a time. The pikemen from engineering will handle any counter-attacks. Undamaged survivors from these two stacks will be capable of taking a third city, before we declare a short peace. The last Roman War, we spend the last medieval forces we got, to get the last remaining xps needed for promotions, and voila, we can gear our military entirely for overseas operations in a WW1 scenario.

That was my election platform, but apparently, not enough people read it, or believed the other candidate was capable of copying my platform and act on it.

I agree, thanks HUSch!

I gotta be honest with you on this one. I'm getting :old: and am beginning to finally understand the value of the "executive summary" method of communication. If one candidate produces many multi-page posts with lots of special terms and fancy names for units, and another candidate posts sufficiently complete information which fits in one page, I'm going to tend to vote for the single page candidate.

Which is not to say I'm pleased with the current situation, as the current occupant of the office doesn't seem to be even producing single pages...

The Gods have spoken to us.

Julius Caesar attacked Germany, we own Frankfurt and Tartar.

I think we need to prepare for a German war, imminently, as we are strong enough to win nicely.

and then eliminate the Romans

I'm not sure about that, Rome is now friendly enough with us that we can open borders with them, we could use this as an opportunity to first spread Confucianism to their lands so that we'll know what we're up against.

I say attack them and clean up the continent before things get old.

It's funny, relations with Rome are better now than before they declared war on Germany. We're getting something like +2 for sharing in a military struggle. I wonder if that means they'll go negative again when the Germans are wiped out?

Yes, this is more or less how the Americans and Soviets felt when they were fighting Germany in another war.

I think it is not worthy for Mongols to delay the Roman War, as we got the troops to do it. We should sweep them up now.

I think we must start war against Romans soon.

First Dortmund to end that war weariness and join motherland (may be we are
lucky enough for Roman to destroy Dortmund next turn...).

Best regards,

They did cancel deals but they are willing to trade again already, we can get open borders with them and even if we declare war immediately after our troops are at the front and healed signing open borders now will give a few turns for an outdated keshik from Cummae to scout their core cities.
