I've recently tried to play some SP games on diety level in which I partner with an AI and have the other AI in pairs as well. Standard size maps. When I play games WITHOUT teams the Diety AI build massive army and tech rates and expand like a plague. But in team play, my diety partner will never build more than a second or third city, always has a pathetic military with next to no units, and constantly declares peace with civs that I'm currently trying to destroy. Is this just a bugged feature of the game? Or am I doing something horribly wrong? Its basically like I'm playing by myself vs diety AI teams. Thanks :goodjob:

Heh, I've never played a team game. I can imagine that having one of these AIs as a partner would be a frustrating experience :)

I have a theory: In your AI team game, the AI could might be trying to be "considerate" to their teammate, hence not expanding?:dunno: The AI gives other players diplo hits for making too many cities near them, sometimes "too many" is really not that many.

Hmm idk. I've played a few of the starts where my teammate starts far away from me (despite choosing the option where we should start in the same area) and its the same. I even tried selecting highly aggressive and/or expansive leaders as my partner and then selecting squishy wonder-builders as the other civs. No matter how I manipulate the options the outcome is the same! :-( budget. Its looking like not many people have played around with this since I haven't gotten a solid "this is why" answer. Thanks for the replies though. I guess ill give up on teams in special :-(

I've tried playing on a team on immortal, and had the same experience. and I wanted to kill off my allies after the tenth time they declared peace with a civ I was about to conquer

I don't think anyone put efforts in balancing this option. And it does require a different balance. The only time I've tried this a year ago or so I also found AI to be extremely unworthy to team up with. It basically acts the same way as it does in regular non-team game. Checks out stats, sees the rival team/civ has thrice as many troops as it does, panics and settles for peace. You don't care for stats, but stupid AI does. For this option to works in somewhat bearable way, I think the autonomy needs to be neutralized. You shouldn't be able to DoW/make peace without your partner's agreement. Although this also will be very frustrating for human players, but at least they'll have the possibility to choose the team that suits best their own play style.

Well glad to see I'm not the only one to have this issue. The constant peace making makes it impossible to conquer or criple an AI. Oh well. Come on expansion! Thanks for the responses guys.

I played a AI team game once for about 100 turns. The declaring peace problem is huge. I never played another AI team game after that experience.

I need to try putting the ai into teams. You definately would have trouble soloing an ai team at high levels. The tech would be horrible.

For sorting that out, I started several deity games on huge maps with two teams.
Team 1 = me + 9 AI
Team 2 = 2 AI
I only played defensively with a single city, I did not build wonders and did not trade for not interfering.

In ten games or so, the 2 opponent AI always end up to be much stronger that the 9 allies, in one case they even started a rather successful world conquest and I guess it would have worked if I had played further. In another game, I saw India screwing Mongolia ...

The 9 allies played really badly, even in Prince I think they are doing better. It is possible that at the deity level, AI allies are starting with the special deity unit pack, but they play as chieftain AI.

Something is definitely glitched with AI bonuses in teams. If a human is teamed with the AI maybe the AI gets the human difficulty instead of chieftain?

Lolol 9 vs 2 and the pair started conquering? Sad sad :-( I hope the expansion fixes that. When solo games grow stale I'd like to be able to spice it up with team games. I haven't played civ much recently though since I've been moving. Anxious to play again!
