I have the old, original version of CivNet but it crashes whenever one starts diplomacy between players.

I wonder whether there is a patch somewhere which might stabilise that. Even better, is there a civ1-version which one could play over the interenet by e-mail?

So everybody would save his move to a file when finishing, which is sent to the next player and so on. this would allow to play civ like one move per day, which is best for working-class people... :)

civ1 is the only real civ, at least for some friends and me...

Technically, it would be possible to play Civ 1 by email. Just send the .map and .sve files... :)

Of course, you would have to hack the save file to change the human player after each move...

Easily accomplished via batch file/binary patching, I believe.

thanks for your replies. would this work with the mulitplayer civ1-version which is offered here for download?

I mean I should be able to select the number of human players and their order

What program do you mean? Neither Civ 1 nor Civ Net would be available for download here... perhaps you're thinking of one of the editors, such as civ$ or TerraForm?

I don't think you're gonna be able to easily do what you want to do.

Clearly you can't do that with Civ 1... I can't speak for Civ Net. (If Civ Net has an option for multiple local players, then it should be possible. But I suspect it's just modem and null modem opponents...)

He could be thinking of FreeCiv, which supports an arbitrary number of human players.
