Playing Mod Maps

I have downloaded some mods and when ever I load them up, such as one that is a WWII theme one, which states it has a map and what not, I check the box to enable it, click on Single Player, after it enabled (inside the mod sub menu), click on setup game, and under the select map area, there are no new maps in there besides the normal ones (earth, north versus south, four corners etc). Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?
