Please Help: Supergun ideas

I have an idea for Supergun technology. Its the fist step on a long road to an altenative industrial/modern era mod based around "steampunk" ideas I have. Coal and natural gas are abundant used where as oil is completely ignored as an enegry source. Its all dirgibles, giant walking weapon platforms, smog bound cities and superguns. Sort of Jules Verne if you know what I mean.

My ideas for the supergun are:

Firstly a small wonder called "Special Munitions Factory" must be built. It allows the building of a unit called, say, "Normal Shells" and later chemical and / or other special shells depending on techs. The other thing the S.M.F. would allow would be the building of the actual super guns themselves, which would be buildings.

The shells themselves can move but can not lanch except from a city with a super gun. The attack itself would be a long range lethal bombard.

Firstly would this be possible? If not, could the current system for air units be adapted to its use (Re-locate - move shells to a super gun city or to the S.M.F city (these buildings could be flags as "airports"), flag the shells as missiles to make them 1-shot)? I would like aircraft in the game but I could be persuaded to like without them and just stick with dirgibles with normal move values, although would this limit their use over coast, sea and ocean tiles?
 
Let me say first off that I like your ideas. But I can see only one way to make your supergun work the way you invision, ie(shell and gun sepret units). That is to tag the gun "transports tactical missile" and the shells as "tactical missile". This of cours means when you use it ingame it would be treated as a nuk by other civs, not good. If there is another way, I don't see it. As far as using the Re-locate flag you can put this on any unit and it can re-locate to any city, airport or no.

If you call your dirgibles "aircraft" but not tag them as immobile and give them movement valus, they will move over any tile, but can be shot down easily by enemy surfes units, unless stacked on one of your own surfes units. I myself use dirgibles and blimps this way.
 
Adamantinus, thanks for the info on blimps. It sounds like they will work excactly the way I want.

As for the shell things I would like the AI to use them as nukes as I probably will not use nukes (or will change them to be chemical weapons). I also ment the air-lift flag not re-locate flag (I reaslised this after I had switched the machine off but it was 2:30am and I was very tired!). Even if I had to use the re-locate flag it would represent storing the shells somewhere where they could not be launched (a dumb idea yes but... ).

As a last resort I would treat them as wheeled units but could I still limit their bombad attacks to SG cities only?

I was planning on attempting to make the Mako Cannon from Final Fantasy VII as a unit within the next month or so. I'll probably start on the model this week. When I've got the model built, I could render it in a format for use as a city improvement/tech icon for your mod if you want.
