"Please Insert Civilization 3 Disc"... (It is definately in there)

What can I do to alleviate this problem? It seems that the 1.29f patch is causing the problem.

I install Civilization 3 (basic version; no expansions), and test it. It runs fine. I then install the 1.29f patch, and I get an error message telling me to insert the CD. What the hell?!?! I have the damned CD in there, why won't it work?

Please excuse my frustration, but I want to play this game again after it was stolen two years ago. Thank you for your help.

This is a problem with the Copyright Protection part of the game. Try contacting Atari (www.atari.com) and if you prove to them you own the game, they might be able to help you out.

I bought the game yesterday though! And it works without the patches...

How would I prove it to Atari? A picture with a beforehand agreed upon signal?

Sure, or if they ask you about the game's installation folders, etc. The patch probably changed the copy protection, which made it not work.

Where are you getting the 1.29 patch at? Is that the best one? I can't even get the 1.22 patch to work.

It goes through the installer thing but doesnt change anything.

The 1.29f patch is for 'Vanilla' Civ3. The highest patch level for PTW is 1.27f, and C3C is 1.22.

Trying to use the 1.29f patch for Conquests won't do anything.
