I installed new memory and a new virus protection a few days ago, now i get the insert the cd-rom message. I OWN THE GAME!!!!!!!!! so dont think that I am trying to get something for free....but I cant's seem to get it to load. The cd drive tries to read it about 3 or 4 times and then puts up the error. This is the only program that puts up this error so the cd drive works fine......and I've tried to reinstall and it didnt work and I've tried tech support...but havent heard back yet plz help!!!!!!

I sent your a personal msg, I do not know/think if/that forum rules allow posting of No-CD cracks and so on.

I don't think he's asking for a No-CD crack in the first place, but you're right Longsac, posting such a patch in the forums is against the rules. Although implicating yourself as maybe having done so in PM isn't too wise either...

I think we walk a very fine line with this sort of request.

Civfanatics policy on piracy is very clear yet we must make allowance for (genuine) users who are requesting help.

djfear (with 1 post) is obviously an unknown quantity. Surely the easiest course is to (politely) refer him to civ3.com and let tech support do their best (or worst) for him.

Yet if I were in a similar position to djfear I would probably do a google search on "Civ +Conquests" and end up here at Civfanatics not bothering to read the forum rules and simply post a request for help.

The thrust of my message is that these sort of requests should be brought to the attention of a moderator and they (the moderators) should be left to resolve the situation.

If you have a problem with your CD, email (or write to) Atari and ask them what they can do.

I rest my case :)

And of course what we all forgot to say but should'be was:
WELCOME TO CFC djfear123!
[dance] :wavey: [party] :band: :sheep:  :jump: :goodjob: :crazyeye:

seconded superlug

Ted

I appreciate the second, but just remember my party was alcohol free! Of course that doesn't explain the jumproping sheep...

Super: what about that crosseyed dude? I also question guys who dance without being heavily intoxicated :)

Nick: some of those are even more fun. I've got one friend in particular who have a tendancy to fall asleep under a table after a six-pack (I know it's pathetic). He's a blast when we keep him away from alcohol though.

Btw: that reminds me of the only useful latin quote I know: Credo volvo sub mensa. I think I will roll under the table...
:Crossing fingers, hoping the latin lovers ( :p ) will stay away from this thread:

If the game worked prior to installing the memory and virus protection, try disabling the virus software before running the game. Also make sure you don't have any background applications running before you try to start conquest. What operating system are you using?

I think this subject is somewhat controversial...

I have both Civ 3 and Civ3 Conquests... and not all drives can get pass the SD 2 prot.

In my PC i can run the game without problems, but at my girlfriends PC, her drive doesn't get past the protection, so the CD spins and spins in the drive until the insert CD appears...
So in this case, should i contact Atari about my problem? For what? Any other copy (with the same protection) would do the same, so it's easier to dll a CD-Crack... :)

hmm, If I recall correctly, I think I read something once about older CD-ROM drives not being able to read some discs correctly because they don't spin fast enough. What speed is your CDROM drive?

It is not about older CD-ROM drives, even some Plextor drives have problems with SafeDisc.

The only question here is if djfear123 is just trying to get his COPY running or if he is having a real problem.

Anyway, I sent him a PM with a link to a solution that he did not read up to now.

I usually say if someone wants to copy a game, he should have the balls to find the crack without help. :P

But as EnyGmaTiK said, there are many examples of players who have problems with certain copy protections that really feel angry because they actually bought the game.

I am playing Civ3 on both my Desktop and my Notebook. During the week I am usually not at home, and I tell you, it was a real pain as I noticed that I forgot my Original CD at home - and at this time, I had no No-CD crack. :P

Now it would be interesting if we ever hear of djfear123 again...

My problem was that conquests wouldn't play because apparently I was using a burner:confused: But it plays fine on my old Sony CD drive:) Its something to try if you have similar problem before asking for your money back.
