Pretty please with sugar on top?

The reason is that when a thread is moved you get unsubscribed.

Ideally we would all stay subscribed (everyone who was currently subscribed, that is), but if that is not possible I bet you can get the forum code to auto-email authors when moving their threads instead.

Many thanks!

**bump** (:D)

I second that suggestion. :) (Don't need even sugar on top. )

This would also be nice for moderator-initiated threads that "develop" in another one: when post go off-topic (compared to original thread subject) and
the mods sort these "off-topic" (but interesting) posts out to form a new thread .

Is that feasible or does it require too much mod action (e.g. "hand-made" PMs etc)?

Maybe we could indeed have that auto-subscription to moved threads (respectively newly constructed threads out of old posts) with the new vB 3.0 version (when is it published anyway?)?

Any comments? :)

I was unaware that moving a thread lost the subscription. Heck, I usually post in a thread I move just to let subscribers know I'm moving it! This would definitely be a good thing to include, if VB3.0 doesn't have it already.

As for splitting a thread, like I did last night in the QA thread, I think that would have to be manual. (?) Again, I did bump it to the top of the forum, but I suppose I could have emailed everyone who had posted in it. (I would rather not - that can be a lot of emails = extra work.) This would be a bit harader to write a hack for than simple moving, but I suppose it could be done.

He he, evil Lefty develops scheme to move popular threads to another forum and back and cut off subscribers.:satan:

Padma, thanks for delivering an insight. :)
Well, "manual" mail (PM) is not so nifty. :(
I hope for an hack for automatically handling this. Btw, the black spot (=indicating that one has already posted in a thread) did, however, show for me over the envelop of that mentioned seperated thread.

:D
err... and thanks Lefty... for that insight... I have a vision of a thread odyssey: "Creation vs Evolution" in civ3 GD...
:D

Oh pleeeese move them via GD! It could be fun to see those threads appear and disappear, and we could spam them before they got moved back to OT. :D

Not worth starting a new thread for this, but did you realise when you split a thread off you get all the views from the old thread on the new one too?

This is the thread that Padma created from the Quick Answers thread. 24 posts and 14000 views:

naa, it's an interesting topic that simply attracts; and posters don't dare to spam the thread - they are just in awe of the great wisdom published there!

let's see if this was even more advertisement... I expect 20000 views tomorrow...:D

Yup, I hate when that happens.... I have spent about 10 minutes at the most looking for a thread that was moved elsewhere.

Good to hear the option is in 3.0.
