Rule #1 - just give me all your money.

Rule #2 - really, and yes, the singles in your front pocket as well.

Rule #3 - smile, you're having fun.

:)

The only poker I've ever played, was in an arcade-game, in those old arcade machines, and it's name was "Poker Ladies"(although, Mame-emulator is good).

Hi zeon
I love poker as well. Although I tend to brag about how good I am when in fact I'm probably the worst player in the world. I'm not a great civ player but poker strikes me as being more than a simple game of cards ;) If it was simple I would have been winning a bit more than i have done in the past.
I got a CD through my door from getminted.com for on-line poker. I want to play but I would like to get a lot better before I start playing for money on-line. Are there any poker computer games available that are good for ironing out brain farts and would help me develop as a player that I can play by myself?
Thanks

:hmm: Funny that, I don't think that's the way Doc Holliday and Wyatt Earp used to play

I play holdem on yahoo pretty often. Its fun, but the rules are restrictive and the other players can be problematic. Way too many 12 year olds.

I love poker, though I don't really play it online. That's really a different type of poker because instead of looking for people's reactions you are playing it purely on the cards (and at most their 'poker face' of how long they hesitate). I like the social aspects of sitting at a table with friends and putting some money on the line. We usually play a few rounds of Texas hold-em at a $5 buy-in and just have fun. Usually the money you win is barely enough to pay for pizza and beer so it's more for fun and not really for winning money.

There's a site called www.partypoker.com that allows you to play for either cash or play money. If you have an AIM screen name I could tutor you :) You could also buy hoyle casino that has an excellent poker program for the computer, or ultimate card games for gameboy advance which has your standard five card draw but it keeps track of your statistics.

Thanks. What I'm looking for is a program that has a database of historical games (like from those televised tournaments where the viewers can see the hands of the players) so that I can compare my play with the devilfish or whoever. Sort of like the the QSC where junior civ players can compare their opening play sequence with that of Sir Plebs.
Thanks for your offer of tutoring me but I think its better if I go and put in the hours myself. Its like in the civSGs or chess - there are players who turn up and get tutored from good players but never put in the hours needed to get better.

I'm a big fan of Texas Hold'em. Me and a few mates get together quite frequently to play. I've tried party poker, but it's not quite as good as playing for real with chips in front of you. The last time I was playing at my firends house it came down to three of us. I was quite a way behind, so I thought screw it. Nearly every hand I had I went All In before the flop, forcing the other people out of the hand. I picked up a few pots that way. In the process I pissed of my friends no end. Then when they got so frustrated one of them called me and I managed to hit a flush. That was a lot of fun.

Poker's fun, but I can't imagine why anyone would want to play it online. Similar with other card games. I used to work in a casino and it was fun. Why would you want to play it on the internet? Very peculiar.

Playing computer games at a LAN party is more fun than online as well. But, if you went out to LAN party at 11 p.m every night then the people you live with would quickly get sick of you. Equally if you went down the casino everynight or over to your friends to play poker you would quickly find yourself in the doghouse.

Makes perfect sense to me.

"A bad day playing cards beats a good day working/going to school" Poker for dummies, Vol.1
I would also recommend for poker players of every skill level ( unless Doyle Brunson happens to be a civ fanatic than he can skip this post :) ) buying "Poker for Dummies" made by the people who make the dummies books, it has important information on all the games including hold 'em, seven card stud, omaha, and five card draw. It also contains poker etiquette rules, a definition section of all the poker sayings, profiles of the best players, even tips on video poker! It is the poker player's bible and I would recommend strongly that you buy it. It's led to the bankrupting of more than one friend :D

I used to play it with friends and learnt some things.

  • Don't put your hands under the table
  • Don't smile or show any emotion (poker face)
  • Some other stuff I forgot :p

I won a lot of money back in those days :king:

Party Poker sucks, don't even bother.800 chip sit'n'go?...gimme a break!..the only ones making money are PP with their rakes.

Go to Poker Pages/Poker School/Bugsy's Club.Much better.400>800 player tourneys as well as sit'n'go.

Best site to start with nothing and make real American cash is TigerGaming.com

Both sites have real and play money play.

btw-the poker Bible is Doyle's Super System.Absolute must have for any poker player.

here is a pic from PokerPages. This sit'n go started at 1500 chips.Bugsy points can be used to enter real money tourneys. The chat window is much better than PP(amongst other things)
