I'm really enjoying the new modes but I also agree that they should at least alternate.
I'm new to this and I don't really know how to finish games (learning a lot from everyone else) so my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt.
The other simple truth is that the ongoing patches are transformative to the standard settings.
For example, given all the buffs to harbors, it'd be great to play a maritime game on standard settings.

6otM99 will have a good amount of water with no NFP requirements.

I just had a thought that I wanted to ask about - accelerated starts?
Nobody ever plays them. I've tried them a couple of times and they really change the balance, making a whole lot of different wonders and civs good. It's actually really good value.

It has been done, but I think the last time was a special 6otM50 edition with multiple games and multiple starts. December 2020 is when 6otM100 will be released - it will have something unique that hasn't been done before.
