I have not played with longer ages so far. I'm curious: Does that option extend the length of the crises too? I wouldn't mind having more time for immersion purposes, but the thought of having to slog through the plague crisis for even longer really turns me off...
It typically will, yes. You'll get 240 ticks of the clock with every turn being one tick. Normal length is 200. So when you hit 70% crisis still arrives.

There are strategies to reduce time spent in crisis, like holding off on completing legacy paths, eliminating other civs, or researching future tech and civic.

Plague and happiness crisis are annoying so I've turned them off for my most recent game. Give me the barb invasion, that's fun.

Yes, but they also come later. You could disable individual crises, or all of them, though. I believe having crises disabled works perfect with long ages.

Yes it does, as the crisis starts once a certain percentage of the era is complete so by using long ages it will extend the crisis by several turns.
