Polynasian Civ?

I would like to see like an Aboriginal civ or something like it.

I doubt it. The, Africans however, are another story.

btw, the word "Africans" above is a link.

I still think we need a Aboriginal, Mauori, or a SE Asian civ.

Not much is known about the Aborigines, at least not enough to be a Civ. Same with most Polynesian Civs.

Even more than that, none of them built anything of note or had cities. They are cultures but not civilizations.

That said, I would like to see the following civilizations added:

~ Srivijaya (located on Sumatra in Indonesia, the most significant of the ancient Indonesian trading nations)
~ Khmer (ancient Cambodians, one of the oldest civilizations)
~ Thailand/Siam
~ Songhai/Mali (different civilizations, but somewhat similar, each also covered about the same territory in northwestern Sub-Saharan Africa)
~ Dahomey (Benin during Medieval times, it was a major trading partner to Songhai)
~ Anasazi (the most civilized of any North American civilization, they built cities and irrigation systems from California to Texas)
~ Tibet
~ The Hebrews (NOT modern Israel)
~ Phoenicia (replacing Carthage, not much else to say)

Regarding the "Hebrews", I think it would be better to have the "Judeans". Hebrew is a language; Judea is a place. It helps that that is what the original kingdom was called too.

It would be nice to see a Polynesian civ, or at least another civ that was primarily a seafaring nation, like Phonecia (but that could be covered by Carthage.). There should be a compiled list of civilizations we'd like to see.

Saying that the name Isrealites is an issue is the same as saying the name Greeks is an issue. The first Greece didnt appear until 1821 yet it refers to the Byzantine Era and Macedonian Empires.

Judea is a Kingdom that was allied with the Kingdom of Israel. Two States. Judea was spared by the Assyrians, especially in regards to their Wonder the Temple of Solomon. It was the Babylonians that put an end to the ancient glory of the Jewish cultures of that time. And today with the assistance of allies, that State has been reestablished. I have a feeling this will be an option in Civ 4. Civil Wars and Nation building will most likely be on Civ 4. So Israel in effect makes the most sense to be added.

My favorite SE Asian civ is Malay. They stretched from the Malay Peninsula to Borneo and are the ancestors to the Phillipines.

Indonesian unity is still developing between tribes in Sumatra, Java, Celebes, the Moluccas, Halmahera, Irian Jaya (New Guinea), Flores and the Timorians have gained international support to cede from Indonesia. Some of the tribes in those regions are still trying to cede. A pesty problem you might face on Civ 4 if each of your islands want to cede from your nation.

Aboriginal Australians may have accomplished more than you think and yes as a Civilization. Before water levels rose when Europe was froozen, Aborigines lived at the coasts of a much larger Australia. These groups are not accredited to many accomplishments which Australia only about a month ago formed a delegation in a ceremonial event at the Natural Wonder of Red Rock, where data previously not acknowledged will be compiled and taught in schools in Australia and available for others to study as well. I studied the Tasmanian Aborigines and the history and contact they had with the British is actually really interesting. The British wrote of the history through the stories the Tasmanians use to tell them. They would teach their young the history of their people through telling stories. Today there are British Diary/Journals that account for the numbers and history of the Tasmanians which were systematicly killed by the colonators into disappearance. They took the human bones of these Tasmanian Aborigines and place them in museums in London today.

Tonga is a cool Civ that has never been conquered. If I played Tonga, I would want my Leader to look bad ass (because they were very warlike) and proud that he could kick everyone's butt.

Lastly, I would vote for Hawaii, because their Civilization is awesome and because why wouldnt anyone want to play Hawaii and change all the islands on your Civ Map to be Hawaii. Like who would ever refuse that, really.

Having a civ called Israel is an issue for the following reasons:

- There is a politically active Jewish lobby in the USA (the main market) that identifies strongly with Israel.
- Many civ players, in their stories of how they won, boast of wipping out civ XYZ.
- If that lobby reads those stories, that will do the game's reputation a lot of harm.

That's very paranoid, but given today's climate I could easily imagine it. I wouldn't want to see another "are videogames bad?" "debate" on the Communist News Network: "Oh my, first videogames let you kill people, now they glorify eliminating an entire race. It's sooo intolerant."

There is also a Greek lobby group: American Hellenic Institute. No complaints from them. Quick announcement: Greeks were targeted by the KKK and in Southeastern Europe are seen as the European conspirators that will take the Balkans and Turkey for Europe. Most these people speak hatefully about Greeks, like Macedonia trying to take our identity. No Greek lobby group in America would care if they played this game as the Ottomans and conquered Byzantium or Macedonian Greece.

Trust me, Jews or Israelis will not care about videogame activity. They are very smart and leave their arguments to security and suicide bombers. Videogames are not worth their investment in time. Besides, most likely if their Civ is accurate they will most likely dominate rather than be eliminated. My opinion.

Strongly disagree. Of course, most pple in Isreal will care as much when an Isreal or Hebrew or Jewish Civ would be destroyed by the Arabs, as if we care when Germany gets whipped out by the Dutch, or other traditional arch-enemies ;).

But, you cannot deny there's a strong fundamentalist movement in the Jewish community. And fundamentalists may never be trusted.
Or, imagine Neonazis pick up Civ4 to eliminate that Civ with the Germans. :(

How ridiculous, this shouldnt be an issue, at all.

I dont see why Judea or Israel couldnt be in the game because people will be upset when that nation is vanquished. If people do get upset by this then... well, to be honest I would then simply ignore those people, obviously there is something wrong with them.

Not sure Judea/Israel would qualify to be represented in Civ4, but thats another issue I guess.

I agree that there could be some problem about having Israel in civ. It's the same issue why we havent Hitler as a German Great Military leader. And think of all the cries when Fascism was introduced as a government. But I think these reactions are just ridiculous, because ignoring history is no solution.
However, wouldn't the problem be solved if the ancient Israelites (Hebrews or how they are called) are included? They are also more worthy imo. And besides: Israel isn't the same as Jews!
