So, I was reading researches on Eastern Orthodox relic traditions, the Mazārs of the Islamic world, as well as Buddhist relics (Śarīra and others) and the temples that house them.
It caught my notice that a lot of Mazars were not only mausoleums for notable religious leaders, but also for local rulers, local influential figures; and there is a case in China that local officials dug out a tombstone of a random Muslim several centuries ago, so they decided to built a Mazar to house him. And a lot of Śarīras (or preserved bodies or body parts) were not from the Buddha but from locally influential monks (such as sutra translators) as well. Basically, a (sometimes non-religious) Great People can have their tomb as worship place or left relic in these societies.
This also reminds me that the Mausoleums of Halicarnassus of Civ V would also provide +100 gold each time a Great Person (even for other civilizations' GPs) is expended, take advantage of a Great People's retirement.
And currently, in the Heroes & Legends Gamemode, the death/retirement of a Hero would give a relic as well.
Therefore, I would suggest "Every retired Great People of this Civilization/Wonder's Owner will provide 1 Relic until the Relic pool* is depleted" as a Civ Unique Ability or a Wonder Ability.
If it is a CUA, then it shall be paired with GP points generation ability** and a Relic Slot Building*** as well.
*Currently there is a pool of 24 Relics, and if you depleted them no more will spawn.
**cf. Brazil, Scotland, Sweden; but not as crazy as Russia's, or you can deplete the pool before Renaissance.
***cf. Khmer's UB, Sweden's UB, or Kongo's Palace.
This way, there will be a Great People focused civ that is very competitive in faith/tourism generation - or, if it is the ability of a Wonder, then GP civs are more inclined to build it to become competitive - and the interesting relic-generation bonus will not be limited as a Khmer-only trick.
