Possible to set custom resolution?

Is it at all possible to set a custom resolution to run civ4 in? Perhaps by adding something to the shortcut or something?
Im trying to play on a HDTV but the graphics options hasnt got the resolution i need available. (1232x692)

It's in the INI file in your documents\my games\<civ game> directory

Yes i've found it, but theres a problem.

After i set resolution to 768x1232 the game doesnt start due to an error during startup.
If i run it in window mode then it starts up but i want to run it in full screen mode.
What to do?

1232x692 or 768x1232? you said both. I'm not a big HDTV person... I do widescreen monitors instead - but neither of those resolutions sound anything like what i'm familiar with. Are you sure that is your TV's res? maybe it's 1280x720 (720p)? 1366x768 (768p)?

Civ requires a minimum of 1024x768 (the last patch did add 1280x720 support). Your 692 is to low. Please don't tell me your trying to play on a CRT TV (I take it the odd rez is to correct overscan) since text will be really hard to read.

Well, its a little bit complicated but i'll try to explain.
Im using a HD 32" 768p LCD tv. Connected to my laptop with a DVI to HDMI cable. I can only use 720p with DVI but when i use that the screen picture gets cropped in the edges. I then have to use a 1232x692 desktop resolution to prevent this.
When i play BtS on my tv, the only resolution available ingame is 1280x720, but when i use it the screen picture gets cropped in the edges again. So i need to find a way to use 1232x692 res. in BtS.

However, in the ini file it says that 768 is minimum hight res. So i tried 1232x768 res in the ini file, but then the game wouldn't start due to an error on start-up.
However, i could start it up when i ran it in windowed mode. And the cropping problem seemed to be gone. I.e. the whole game screen was visible. But windowed mode isn't pretty.

So now my only problem seems to be how to get BtS running with 1232x768res. in fullscreen mode.

I doubt this is a Civ issue, but rather that 1232x692 and 1232x768 aren't "real" resolutions (they're totally non-standard). I have a feeling your video card won't allow them, and your HDTV probably wouldn't accept them anyway.

Try setting your desktop to 1366x768 and running in a 1232x692 window; that should fill your screen with Civ perfectly.

How do i set the desktop resolution to 1366x768?
The highest one i can find (withing resolution range) is 1280x720.

Oh, guess I misunderstood; I thought you had gotten 1366x768 to work, but with overscan. Try desktop resolution 1280x720 then, and same window settings from my previous post.
