Preparing food using rubber gloves

Do you have a distaste for food being prepared with rubber, latex gloves?

I have a weird disgust for my food to be prepared using rubber gloves. Does anyone else have this same disgust?

Depending on the situation, I can occasionally taste the rubber on the food I am eating. I also find it gross when I see a person handling my food with grease-covered gloves that are all wrinkly and soaking wet.

Call me weird, but I would rather have someone prepare my food with bare hands, while washing their hands constantly than use rubber gloves.

I think I'd also rather have someone wash their hands frequently than use rubber gloves. That's one of the reasons why I like sushi places: the guy is making them right in front of you, and you can easily check his hygiene...
 
It makes the food seem very "manufactured" and impersonal, even though it is, but it is nice to feel like it isn't.
 
If they're not washing their hands frequently, I want the gloves. But only then.
 
The gloves make people think they don't have to wash their hands as often and in the long run are counterproductive for that reason IMO. Also they are almost always for show, if you can't see where the food is being made chances are nobody is wearing them (unless they have a large open cut in which case gloves are a good thing).

I suspect the latex flavor is psychosomatic though.

Burning your hands while wearing gloves hurts like hell btw.

I've actually seen before where a kitchen staff kinda pulled all the gloves out of the box for some stupid reason and they were all jumbled together, causing some of the powdery gunk from the inside to get on the outside of other gloves.

In my kitchen, if you are touching food that won't be cooked after you've touched it, you will be wearing gloves. Every time.
And you change them often.
You don't re-use them. Ever.
It does feel strange to start with, but once you get used to it, chopping lettuce without gloves is like driving without a seatbelt, just feels really weird and wrong.

How often do you wash hands?
Well, let's say you're chopping something.You need to go and get something from the fridge, you throw the gloves away, when you get back, you put on new ones. You probably don't wash hands in between.
Why? Because there seem to be very few people whose skin can handle being washed every five - ten minutes all day every day. And also because for hand washing to be effective, five seconds isn't enough, you need at least a minute. And I can't picture a kitchen where you'd have time to do that.
Yes, you do wash hands when you come to work, when you've been out, handling money, something dirty, probably occasionally when you change gloves, certainly when you take gloves off if you aren't going to put new ones on, as hands tend to get a bit sweaty in them.
 
I think also that we're getting a bit paranoid. Provided the cook is cleaning his hands before his shift, I don't mind that his bare hands are going to touch my food. Bad/contaminated food is much more likely to harm me than bare hands.
 
I like people wiping their asses and picking their noses just before they prepare my food with their bare hands. It adds a sense of je ne sais quoi to the meal.

I'd prefer my food to be made with them wearing gloves. People who make food do not have the time to wash their hands constantly, because there's often a queue.

Also, I really think you're imagining the taste of latex. I used to be allergic to it (until it thankfully wore off in my teens), I think I would have noticed if I had eaten some.
 
I'd say no to powered gloves. Most food people actually use super thin plastic gloves, not like medical people.

It's still better than getting liver disease or severe diarrhea from your cook.
