Prerequisite Tech not refreshing

Hello to the CFCKM (CFC krew massive)
just a quick q regarding tech advances and prerequisites. I've just noticed that when I complete the research on a tech and am taken to the Research Selection popup, the newly accessible techs that should now be available (due to completion of all the prerequisite techs) do not show. AFAIK this only applies to the techs which require the one just completed. It's as though the list of known techs in not being refreshed until AFTER the research select action.

Does anybody else know if this is normal/ know of a patch solution other than the Cheat Mode. This is driving me nuts as I'm a tech behind on the timeline of where I should be.

I am playing Civ2 - MPG (version unknown - where is it given?) through WinXP.

summary, every 3rd discovery a tech that is researchable is not available to select.

playing as a scenario also eliminates the tech hiding
 
Thanks for the info SCG.

I'm glad it's only every 3rd. Thats a beginning at least. Will check out that apolyton link. I wonder if AI suffer the same limitations? Knowing all players are using the same rules would somewhat reduce my need to circumvent it.
