Dieu le Veut, French for God wants it, is the appropriate titel for a scenario about the crusades and Christian wars against the islam. The crusades and war in Palestina from 1096-1291 are the main subject of this scenario, the reconquista of Spain is the second. The third objective is the converting of Eastern Europe, which can only be the task of the Holy Roman Empire. But even they might not think its worth it. Dieu le Veut is what the pilgrims and crusaders said when going on a crusade. Pope Urbanus and Bernard of Clairvaux said this, as members of the church, in Latin: Deus lo Volt.
The scenario will start in the year 1100, one year after the end of the first crusade. The Franks hold a few cities in the East, and should try to conquest all the remaining coastal cities. The Frankish cities will be strong enough to defend themselves against Islam attacks, and might even get lots of oppurtunities to expand their empire. In Spain the situation is different, after years of expanding, the Moors have finally stopped their conquest. The situation is peaceful for a moment, though the Christians are starting to seriously drive the Moors out of Spain. So the goal is to conquer both Palestina and Spain, and maybe even beyond that.
Barbaric troops will appear randomly, sometimes against you, sometimes againt your enemies. Also you will get inforcements randomly or by crusades, but the Turks as well will get units. By attacking slavic or nomad villages or caravans you receive money bonuses.
So the events will both enhance you and your opponents. The scenario contains 2 eventfiles at the moment, but there might come a third. There are events that trigger a crusade other than by turn, such as the fall of Jerusalem or Edessa. They will not come back in the 2nd or 3rd eventsfile. This reflects the fact that people got less interested in Palestina in time, the crusades got smaller and ineffective as time proceeded. Ofcourse the scenario provides both the delevent.exe and a program to make the eventschange easier. Throughout the game, lots of messages containing historical background and other texts will appear telling you about what happened in real life or explaining the game situation.
Almost all the graphics are done by Bernd Brossing (a.k.a. BeBro), meaning a very nice look. The map and terrains were taken from his scenario Imperium Romanum, the units were provided by him seperatly. The tech tree is rather large, and provides enough techs for unit succession.
Some time after the release of this scenario, I might launch a website containing information about the scenario, combined with historical background. This website will contain information for Star Trek: Kappa Quadrant, the Dutch Modpack, and all my future projects as well. The site will be hosted by Civfanatics.net. That way you dont have to download the readme, and can you just look things up at the site, if you think thats easier. Besides that there will be much more information on ST:Kappa than is provided in the downloads section.
At the moment, most files are finished, though not all cities have received their defences and improvements yet, and the events arent finished either. Also the readme files arent finished, but the most important information needed for playtesting is written in them. If you want to playtest mail me: kevinklop@hotmail.com or willem@civfanatics.net .
