Preview: The Stormtrooper ???

Well, little by little, The Stormtrooper unit is coming.
I have created a Death animation, what do you all think?
A special thanks to my WIFE, that has a lot of patients with me, since I spend more time on the computer!
Don't be sorprised if it will take a little longer. I have to spend time also with my family.;)

Hey, that's a cool looking death. Nice work.

also, thanks for the compliments on my own work, guys. At least I didn't waste my time doing it :)

Thank you all for the compliments.
I will be asking Dark how to install the different animations, after completing all the flcs, by using FLICster I believe, in the game.
Plus , does Flicster assign the colors (for each civilazation) on the unit. Or is there something I have to put on the unit like a special color? (Red or blue?)
I will be asking for your advice Dark Sheer soon as I am done with the animations.

Have a good CIV3 day:)

Ok, first, you don’t need Flicster to use the unit in Civ3. Flicster is only needed for you to edit/create the animation. ;) You need to add the unit using either the Civ3MultiTool by Gramphos or Civ3Edit (using alt-A). If you are using Civ3Edit, then you need to create a folder with the same name (say, Stormtrooper) and a ini file with the same name as the folder inside that folder (say, Stormtrooper.ini) and copy all your animation files into that folder. If you are using some of the wav files from the game, you can link the sound files without copying them to the folder by adding something like this in the ini file : AttackA=..\Marine\MarineAttack.wav
Second, if you look at those Palette file generated by Flicster, you will notice that the top portion of the palette is always a range of same color in different shades (either blue of red). Those are the Civ color recognized by the game. Basically Civ3 recognizes Civ color by their position in the palette so the position of these colors cannot change and the same color should also not appear at any other place of the palette. And of course the patch of same color towards the end of the palette are used for shadow. :king:

Hi Dark.
I know how to put a UNIT in the game, maybe I did not explain my self well: How do you RUN The animations properly? Is it through the INI File? I beleive so. :king:
Thank you for now making clear for me how does CIV3 recognize the colors. I guess the fascist symbol on the arm of the Stormtrooper wont be RED but Blue (GERMANY COLORS), unless there is a way to work around it.:)
Thanks for your support, I will be needing it!
:D :D

I have just completed a Victory animation.
Once completed I am planning to have the chant say :"Heil Hitler!"
Of course I will have an optional chant for those that do not want it.;) Let me know what do you think:)

I will be doing final touch-ups on this unit to make sure it will look pretty good in the game (adjusting facial colors and other parts of the animations)Maybe by next week I will have the Stormtrooper ready. I do have to admit that this type of animation takes longer than to create a "tank" or "airplane." I can't wait myself to complete it and play with it the the game :D

Have a good CIV3 day!:)

Hi everyone:)

I have completed 4 animations: Default, Death, Victory,Attack.
Still need to do Run (and I might do fidget, but I think it is not necessary). Hopefully I will be done in a day or two. I stood up all night to finish Death!
Here are 3 animations:

Have a great CIV3 Week-end!

Instead of "Heil Hitler" for the victory sound, maybe you should use "Seig Heil" instead (means something like 'hail victory' or something like that). It's still WWII specific phrase used by the Nazis, and it may be less controversial for some players. Or maybe one could be "Heil Hitler" for those WWII purists who want it and the alternate victory sound could be "Seig Heil". Just a suggestion...

Great, I will do both. Whoever does not like either one, I will put the paratrooper victory sound also. I can understand.;)

I have completed all Animations, but I need help in setting the directions (E,SW,SE etc) for the unit. I have FLICster but I do not know how to use it. I have splited the files, but I still cannot figure out how to assign the diections:cry:
Can some help me? Dark Sheers, TVA22, Kryton or anyone.
Please.

Thanks:confused:

Wotcha Matey,

I'm suprised that you have managed as much as you have without the use of Moeniir's FLICster tool. Believe me, things are much easier with it. As I owe you a few favours, here is a quick step-by-step quide to FLICster use:-

*First, make a shortcut to FLICster on your desktop (makes access easier).
*Next, goto Civ3/Art/units/Paratrooper and copy all .flc files into a spare folder and rename them StormtrooperRun, StormtrooperAttack, and so on. Keep this folder open.
*Now the good bit; doubleclick FLICster to open it and select File/Open, then move up the 'tree' to get to these new Stormtrooper FLIC files and doubleclick one of them.
*In the new window select the 'View Animation' tab and have a play about with the controls on the right of the picture (i.e. Direction/Color/Alpha Blend/Delay).
*When you're ready, select the 'Export' tab and in the new window select 'Export' at the bottom of the screen (answer 'Yes' to open a new FXM file).
*Another window opens. Select 'View Animation' and then 'Popup Mode', and drag this PCX Watcher window out of the way for the moment.
*Now all you have to do is go back to that spare folder you opened above and you will see a new PaintShop Pro image. Doubleclick it to see all the different animation directions.
*Simply cut & paste your new Stormtrooper images onto these Paratrooper images and save them, then doubleclick the FLICster PCX Watcher Popup window to see your new animation!
*Last of all, we need to convert this animation back to a .flc file so that you can save it and use it in a civ3 game. All you have to do is close the Popup window and select 'Export' in the next window and 'Export' at the bottom of the 'Export Type' screen (you can also change frame speed in this window).
Job done!

Next time you use FLICster to open this same .fic file, you will see your lovely creation!

Thanks Kryten!
OOOOPPPSS!!!!:crazyeye:
I just figured out last night that I have not named correctly my animations such as "StormtrooperAttack_NW", but as "AttackNw" or
"AttackStormn". Thats why flicster cannot view any animation! Duuh!
Of course I was in a hurry to finish my animations:rolleyes:
What am doing now is renaming all my animations correctly.
Then I will use your "GREEEEEEEEEEEEEEAT:D " Tips!
I have worked so long with Paint Pro Shop and animation to adjust all the details of the animations to make the Stormtrooper looking better and better.
One more thing: once I save the flcs on animation shop, should the backround be the red/pink color or transparent? I did it with transparent and on the flic backround was black, so I changed back to red/pink. I believe (with animation shop) you can transparent flc files, right?
Anyways, as people say: "One hand washes the other and both keep the face clean;) "
Thanks again buddy!:)

Later on today , 24 hours or so, I might complete this great unit.
(Wait until you hear the victory animation sounds! :D )

Hi,
I can't get the unit Srormtrooper to work. In the game it has different colors and crashes then. And the FLICster that I have does not have all the features that Kryton told me.
I somehow need to edit transparency on the flc files.
But then when I do so , the backround becomes black!!!!
I need help!!!!!!
Can some tell how to fix this problem by using paint shop pro, animation or anything:cry:

Thanks
