I'd like to see the apearance of private armies under certain governments or societies (feudal form of society for example).

And how about the maximization of profit through the effort of entrepeneurs belonging to your civ. That is, the creation of industries, service-producing businesses etc. Environmental destruction could play a part in this as well the level of happiness of your people, maybe even forcing you to take socialist measures to apease them. All of that could even tie in to a communist revolution, and the thrusting of YOU out of power.

There is so much more I'd like to see, like dealing with revolutions that oppose your rule, creation of propaganda, making decisions in the UN on the world stage, and even collaboration with your allies as to battle plans against a common enemy.

How about mercenery forces that show up to fight for you on a gold per turn basis?

I was considering a mercenary force the other day.
My argumant against this would be that, especially in feudal times, mercenaries were so common that in Civ3 their recruitment might as well be considered part of the normal unit build time.
Also rushing a unit could be considered to be recruitment of mercs.

An interesting feature could be the creation of something similar to the 'Great Company', an army of mercenaries that appeared after the hundred years war - men who had been born into war and knew nothing else. This army was actually large enough to threaten any regular army in Europe.

so long as we are asking for stuff, i'd like to see better espionage missions. i'd like to see the concept of "supporting a rebel force in a country strictly for purposes of maintaining internal strife" in that nation without getting any territory.

Mike B. from Firaxis referred to conscript warriors you get from goody huts as "mercenaries." That's what they were called in civ2.

I think renting units to other civs could be fun. The French could come to you and ask, could I use 20 of your modern armors to fight the Germans to counteract their aggression? I'll give you 400 gpt for 20 turns?

This way, you can let the Frenchies fight the Germans, and not put your own cities in peril.

Unless the Germans find out.....:o

Also, you can be pretty sure you'll never see those MA's again, considering how smart the AI is at warfare in the modern age (the time when you really get around to mass-slaughtering AI units with bombers and beachheads) ;)

Thats a really good Idea, in civ1, you could offer military units as a gift, why isnt the same applicable in civ3?

What happened to Civ 2?

You could do it in Civ 2.

I havent played civ 2, so I use all my basis from CTP2 and Civ1

Paramilitary forces would be interesting, as in forces that existed to help defend your nation but were out of your control. It would be linked to Nationalism I guess, and perhaps unavailable to democracies.
