Probably has been asked before (city limits)

I've seen it noted that there's a limit of having 512 (or so) cities on the game. Is there anyway to get around this? I tried searching the forums for the answer, but nothing relevant came up. Sorry if this topic comes up often.

Basically I want to get up to 31 civs on the largest map possible, but it's somewhat pointless when each civ can only have 17 cities per civ and whole tracts of land sit undeveloped.

The 512 city limit has been hardcoded into the game, hence there's no way of getting around it.
You wouldn't want to do that anyway, as the game gets really sticky with that many cities...

Actually, I would want to do that as my computer can handle it just fine with the limit of 512 already hit.

Alright, hardcoded. That was the answer I feared. Thanks!

One way would be to edit certain terrain so that cities couldn't be built on it so that the cities were more naturally spread out.

He wants 512 cities total on a map. Basically, he wants a map that is around, say, 300x300 with 31 civs and tons of cities. But when he tries that, large amounts of land are left open because each civ can only have about 17 cities.

Yeah, I play 362x362 with the Double your Pleasure mod. 512 cities simply isn't enough to justify having more than 20 civs in at once on such a large map. My current game maxed out before we even discovered Coal and that was only 24 civs working at once. So I was hoping there was a way around the limitation so I could have the truly epic game I was hoping for. I simply like massive games so it's unfortunate that they made the city limit a hardcoded part of the game.

So I'm stuck at 20-24 civs. Not a big deal, just mildly disappointing. Still fun as hell.

Edit: Thanks for the idea, Dell.

I used to like big games, and I still do, to a degree, but taking all that time to micro-manage kills my brain cells. It just... gets a bit hazy and boring when it all boils down.

Alt+Tab is my friend. I have a TV to my left, a big recliner chair and typically have Trillian running with an IE open while playing. Then you just play on and off throughout the day.

Your computer must be absolute monsters to be able to handle that... mine slows down with 16 civs!

I think he meant that he does other things whilst the turns are being processed...
