Problem installing BTS 3.19

I just downloaded patch 3.19 through the game's "search for updates" feature. It downloaded without a problem, and told me to click a button to close the game and install the update. I clicked the button and the game closed but--no update was installed.

I then went to the patch folder and manually double clicked on patch 3.19. It took me up through a few screens, including for example one that asks if I want to get Firaxis updates from now on. The next screen said "Click install to install the update" or words to that effect. I clicked on "install" and the installer application immediately closed. Nothing was installed.

BTS remains at patch level 3.13.

Has anyone had a problem like this? Any idea what I need to do?

I'm on Windows Vista SP2.

Many people have trouble with 3.19 when installing through the game's search for updates feature. Download the updates outside of the game (you can find them on this site) then when you install them don't just double-click the file to run it, right click on the patch file and select run as administrator. Many people also find that installing patch 3.17 before 3.19 helps.

Tried downloading 3.19 directly from firaxis and had the same problem.

Then I tried downloading 3.17 from firaxis and installing that first, and got a weirder problem. The 3.17 installer (running as administrator, btw) tells me I don't even have Beyond the Sword installed!

I certainly do.

I did change some stuff in the Assets files in BTS so that the opening screen would have the song from Civ4 Vanilla. Could renaming such files cause an error in patch installation?

What version of BTS & Civ do you have?
Is it from DVD/CD or downloaded from someone such as Direct to Drive?

If it's a downloaded version you will have to get the patch from the same place that you downloaded the game? I don't know if changing the song would have made any difference, try renaming the files back if you have the originals still.

Yeah, I remembered after posting this that I'd gotten the game from somewhere online. Had to go searching through my emails to figure out where... and how to log on there... but eventually did get the patch and it worked great.

I may be deluding myself, but it seems like the game no longer crashes like it used to. But I don't see any stability issues mentioned in the changelog so I'm probably just thinking wishfully. ;)
