Problem with game start up

Hi,

So the short story is the game just won't start. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling in a different directory and also downloading the patch as well.

Basically what happens is I doubleclick on the Civ 4 icon and i get the loading window. About 2 minutes later, the window shuts down without telling me anything and I get an error report screen. I can show the report stuff if I need to, but it did not really offer any help.

The game is brand new, so I don't know what the problem might be. It's not my system since I carry a 1.8 ghz processor, gig of ram, and a 256 graphics card.

Are the video drivers up to date? Did you install the DirectX from the disc? Might be useful to show the error as someone else may have had the same problem and can offer a solution.

k, well the initial error hasnt completely gone away as it doesnt start up like that every once in a while.. but when i do get it again I will post it. Yes i installed directx from the disc.

Now the game will run about one in three times. another one in three times it will start loading, get past the initial load and then start blinkin like it wants to go into the game but just blink to a black screen and then back to my desktop until it gives me another error. This one says its due to a bad resolution problem. and then the other third is the same error i initially got.

When i get the errors again i will post them after i copy and paste them.

I have a similar problem in that the game just will not start.

I've had this game since it was released and this has never happened before. I only played a few turns since I recently downloaded patch 1.61, but the game will not even start since that first time.
