I tried playing the GOTM but had a problem starting. I dowloaded the full packet, put the folder where it told me to put the folder, and copied all the arts folders into the CIV3PTW/Arts folder and the CIV3/Arts folder. but when I start, it tells me I don't have the art file for one of the units, but it's folder is in both of the CIV3/arts folders. Any suggestions?

Your description of how you installed the folders tells me to guess that you are trying to play the PTW version of the game.

The zip folder that you downloaded should have contained 4 items inside of teh the zip folder. Your description of what you did to install the game pack sounds like you juts placed the whole package (in one zip folder) inside of two of your folders.

I am reading into what else you may have done and sort of guess that you may have downloaded one of the versions of the save game file so this may mean that you did locate and read the Readme.txt file that is included as one of the 4 items in the zip pack.

Locate one of these copies of the download pack and carefully open the zip package and just look inside of it to see the 4 things that it includes.

Inside the folder in the zip pack named:

"these folder in ART-units"

you should find 16 folders.

All of these file folders with unit names like "squid" and "FOG" need to be copied and placed inside the folder on your hard drive named:

C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Art\Units

---------------------------------------------------------------

STEP 2:

Inside the folder in the zip pack named:

"place the contents in your CIV3PTW-Scenarios folder"

you should find 1 folders named "gotm20"

you must place this entire folder and all of its contents inside the folder on your hard drive named:

C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\CIV3PTW\Scenarios

----------------------------------
You did not mention the readme files or mention following the instructions for step two in the process. If you do not have the "gotm20" scenario folder properly placed in the /CIV3PTW/Scenarios folder then your game will not load and run even if you have the unit graphics correctly in place.

If the unit graphics folders are not unloaded from zip folder then the game will not run.

If the unit graphics folders are place in the CIV3PTW/Arts folder or the CIV3/Arts folder instead of in the \Civilization III\Art\Units folder as described in the readme file then the game will not run.

Feel free to email me at gotm@civfanatics.net if you need more detailed help to get the files properly placed so you can begin playing the game.
