Problems with flipping and corruption

Two quick questions on how to count- i.e. what number should I use in the FlipCalc?
1) Armies- does an army count as just one unit or as the 3-4 units which form it?
2) Ferners- how do you count foreigners/ferners from civs which are no longer in the game? Do they count as friendlies since their civ no longer exists, or are they ferners no matter what?

I believe the army counts as one unit and each unit within the army also count as a unit.

You only count the foreigners from the civilization the city might flip to. Foreigners from dead civs therefore have no influence on flipping.

Yes, e.g. army filled with three cavalry - that is four units.

i consider "turning off culture flips" to be an exploit because it enables you to build no culture while the ai ignorantly spends huge resources on it that they really dont need to spend.

a better bet:

win a game on monarch and then move to emperor. if you are even coming close on deity AND you are accustomed to winning every time in civ II on deity then you are clearly a skilled gamer who doesnt need to be told to play on warlord. but know this: deity in III is FAR harder than it is in II. it was made that way for a reason. firaxis or whoever made this decision saw how many people blazed through deity in civ II and were shocked that the level they claimed in the rules was close to unbeatable became trivial to such a large part of their playerbase. such players came up with myriad of ways to give themselves a bigger challenge such as with the deity + mods or by using the cheat menu to start the ai with 20 settlers like ive been known to do. now arent you glad you are respected enough by the developers that they gave you a REAL challenge?

you WILL overcome and learn to beat deity with practice. but it will not be handed to you on a platter. you will have to hone your skills to the max to accomplish it. then you will have the satisfaction of doing something truly challenging and WINNING!
