I have a very annoying problem with the music in Civ 3. When I turn the music on, some strange scraching and clicking sound appears. This only happens when I have the music on; all the sound effects sounds fine without it, but I would really like to have music!

This problem has only occured in Civilization 3. No other games or applications what-so-ever.

I have a pretty low end system:
Pentium 2 350 mhz
64 MB RAM
GeForce 2 MX
Sound Card: Crystal (don't know exactly which one)
DirectX 8,0a
Lots of hard drive space

I don't think this is the reason, however. I've been able to run games like Commandos 2 and Black & White in high resolutions without any sort of problems. Perhaps it's just a conflict between Civ 3 and my sound card?

I've got the same problem. I'm running XP (under Win98 no problems). Music is really bad, sound effects almost OK, but occasionally also distorsion.
It must be CIV3 related, like you I have no problems with Max Payne, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Red Alert 2, B&W etc.

Also starting WinXP without all automatic starting apps. (disabled with msconfig) doesn't resolve it.

I have the following hardware:
Epox 8KHA+
Athlon XP2000+
512 MB DDR2100 Crucial
Creative SB Live! Value
nVidia Geforce 2GTS
lots of free GB (SCSI HDD's)
DirectX 8.1

I hate it when I have a very up to date computer and still have such a annoying problem.
