a game (Wargame: European Escalation) recommends that i have this processor:

AMD/INTEL DUAL-CORE 2.5 GHZ

and i have this processor:

Intel® CoreT i7 2720QM 2.2GHz/3.3GHz Turbo 6MB L3 Cache GT2

These hardware questions dumbfound me. I don't know whether my processor is superior to the recommended, comparable to the recommended, or inferior to the recommended. There are so many numbers that i don't understand.

so my specific question is will my processor will work for that game?

and secondly, if you care to elaborate, what do the specifications on a processor mean. Why dos mine list 2 different GHz? Turbo? what does QM mean? what does 6MB L3 Cache GT2 mean?

Thanks!

Superior to whatever processor that game actually needs.

Higher GHZ is when it goes into "turbo" mode.

Yeah, and also consider the i7 is either a quad-core or a six-core depending on what model of i7 it is.

Turbo mode is the ability of the iCore series to reduce the number of processes and temporarily operate at higher frequency. In your case, it runs at 3.3 Ghz when in turbo mode. It is an automatic ability.

It's hard to be really sure if a quad core will run it smoothly, but it sounds like it will. A main consideration is if the software developers have enable multi-threading in the design of their program, at which case your iCore will blow the dual-core away in performance when running the program.

You don't need to worry about the L-cache unless you want to brag or compare CPUs. Generally the more the better with L-caches.

I see on the developer website that they recommend 2GB RAM for running in Windows7 and 1GB RAM for using with XP. I'd guess that if you have double that in your system, then you should be fine to run the game at reduced settings, at worst.

That's a mobile processor right? You should make sure your laptop has the graphics & graphics memory to handle that game, that is going to matter more than the processor.

thanks for the info guys! my computer just arrived. I am setting it up and then hopefully tonight I can give civ V a test run on the highest settings.
