Production is hammers, which you can make by; go into the city screen and see any hammer tiles.Click a white circle on one of these(make a citizen work it) and you will notice the number of hammers the city is producing goes up.
Back out in the strategy map, get a worker to work one of these tiles, into a mine, if on a hill. This increases the hammer output.
What to do with the hammers? Build military units and buildings.
How do you hunt? You mean the Hunting technology? This enables you to build a hut on fur, or elephants, or deer . If you build a hut on them you get more hammers, food, commerce.

Yes you have to connect resources to a city with roads, and it's good if the cities are all connected, so that all cities benefit from the resources. If a city is connected to the network, you can see a symbol like three little arrows in as triangle
Technically rivers also count as routes so if two cities are connected by a river they're connected; or else you can build roads to a river. Also with sailing tech coastal cities are connected if you've explored the coast in between (or any connection of roads, rivers and coastline). Hope that doesn't make it more difficult to grasp.
Ports go right next to the sea. Any city by the coast can build boats, lighthouses, coastal wonders. There is no port building. It's automatically a port.
Religions? If you have founded one,you can build the shrine of this religion with a Great Prophet, who might appear in your city if you build religious wonders or make priest specialists. The prophet can do a few things, one of them being to make these shrines. The shrine boosts th spread of the religion. without the shrine the religion will still spread through any trade routes (roads, rivers) but it will spread slower.
