Promotions didn't save

I saved a game when several units were due for promotion after a successful battle. I had not actually made the promotions: the units were bathed in blue auras awaiting promotion. I figured I'd decide what promotions to pick when I reloaded. However, when I did reload, the blue auras had vanished and I couldn't promote.

(Sorry, I can't send the save files because the game is on my other computer).

Do the units still have the correct amount of experience on the reload? If so it seems rather odd that they can't use the promotions. I hadn't noticed anything like this, but I almost invariably promote immediately.

Did you upgrade the units before promoting? Upgrading a unit reduces it's experience level to a max of 10. So if your unit has 17 exp and eligible for a promotion, you upgrade it beforehand, it will lose 7 points and no longer be eligible for promotion.
